Ronaldinho's rating is deflated because, until 2010, Opta didn't collect the 'big chances created' metric, which awards extra points (Messi, Neymar, etc.).

“If you think about the word ‘footballer’, you have to have something in mind.

“They will accuse me of short sightedness, but if I think about a guitarist, I see Keith Richards.

“But if someone were to wake me up and ask me ‘footballer’, I tend to see Dennis Bergkamp. He looks like a footballer to me.”

    Holy shit

This has to be one of the earliest pieces of football footage I’ve ever seen. The match was played just 10 months after Queen Victoria’s death.

    Literally 125 years ago

Some fans here seem allergic to the idea that George Best was on the same level of footballing talent as Diego Maradona but it comes straight from the horse’s mouth

Maradona himself called George Best his idol.
2073480823269941400 is not a valid tweet id

A player from Northern Ireland could never realistically be expected to win a World Cup, so George Best lifting the first European Cup for an English club stands as an achievement on the exact same level as an Argentine player winning their nation’s second World Cup title.

George Best’s performance against Benfica in 1968 was as devastating as anything Diego Maradona produced in a World Cup, whether in a group stage match or the knockout rounds.

With the key difference being that Diego Maradona across his entire career never produced anything in a major final that looked as visually dominant or spectacular.

Best could match Maradona in terms of dribbling and progressive carries, but he lacked the set-pieces, the through balls, and the peripheral vision.

Maybe this Suarez goal vs Norwich? Though I think the Keegan one was better.

Yeah, that Suárez goal was actually the first one that came to mind when I asked the question.

I still prefer the Keegan goal though. Not only was it scored against vastly superior opposition (Saint Étienne rather than Norwich), but it also came on a vastly bigger stage (a European Cup quarter final rather than a random Premier League match in December against a relegation threatened side).

On top of that, I’ve seen goals similar to Suárez’s before.

I can’t say the same for Keegan’s. It wasn’t just spectacular, it was also incredibly unique. I honestly can’t remember seeing anyone else score a goal quite like it.

What makes the goal even more impressive is the fact that the ball glide in the air smoothly and then dipped at the last second and we know that in the 70s the ball was heavier than it is nowadays which makes it even more ridiculous.

This would have been Keegan best goal ever had it not been disallowed:(

Beckham is an underrated player, the best crosser in football history. People that are just spouting nonsense like was the most overrated player ever, marketing man bla bla are those who never analyse his game and see how important he was for Manchester United.

Ronaldo technically scored 31 goals in 2019/20 season but he only turned 35 in February of that season, so only halfway through.
