You know I was thinking of ways to spread the word about MLS to NYC and this immediately sprung to my mind. For those of you that don't know the Long Island Junior Soccer League is one of the biggest youth soccer leagues in the USA and every year around early March they hold their annual convention, which is attended by hundreds of soccer fans, players, coaches, I think even the Red Bulls have a booth there every year. I've been there many times and it really is a big event that attracts a lot of people and could really be a great way to spread the word. It's probably too late for this year but next year a goal of the Borough Boys could be getting a booth at the convention and showing what they are all about and such. here's the link: http://www.lijsldownloads.com/Convention/Exapplication08.pdf
i would love to promote within this league - our numbers would grow as would our name! While it might be late for this convention - there are other ways to get this league They play in the Walbaums cup - we can show up at that tourny or something like that
When is the Walbaum cup ?..personally I'm more of a A&P guy And Cassano..hope you can make it to the next meet
I think nymetrobulls presented this yesterday and it is def a great idea. Even if we cant get a booth this year I am still down to go there and hand out some flyers in the parking lot. If we can get a few of us to go, we can hand them out to people as they enter and leave the convention. Do you all think it would be annoying if we left them on peoples windshields?
Well the Walbaum's Cup matches are played at individual Club fields, so the only time you would really get a big audience would be at the day of the finals, which take place in June usually at a big soccer complex like Stony Brook, or Mitchell Field. The convention is really the best way to get the word spread. Also, the only Queens teams that play in the LIJSL are Auburndale Soccer Club and Bayside United Soccer Club, and they play their home matches at Fort Totten, near the Throgsneck Bridge.
I wouldn't even think you would have to be in the parking lot. Just walk right into the Hilton Hotel and there are tons of soccer fans around to pass flyers to.
Im down to go,whos willing to tag along? Its after our next meeting so we can discuss it then as well.
i cant go the 8th but the 9th i can As for the finals of the walbaums cup - lots of teams there - think we should hit that as well - cassano - keep us posted on dates!
looks like Waldbaum's Cup finals are June 14 and 15th i found that on the calendar at http://www.lijsoccer.com/
that was always so annoying, the best one year is when the club gave out passes and we got to drive up.
i'm definately down to go, both or no both. oh btw, if this waldbaums cup ever plays matches at stony brook university, that's where i went to college so i can act as the tour guide for anyone who's never been there.
We're putting together a crew to head to the convention this Sunday to get some sigs.If you're interested in helping out contact me.
