I think the band name is Too Much Joy and the song was "Take A Lot Of Drugs".I could hear it forever...
Bob Dylan, "Mr. Tambourine Man". I know you've all heard the crappy version by The Byrds, but get a hold of the real one, turn down the lights, put on the headphones, and listen to the original.

Herb is not a drug, but 3 o'clock Roadblock, Bob Marley Easy Skankin, Bob Marley Legalize it, Peter Tosh
I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned any of the Doors' songs yet, but I'm racking my brain, and I can't think of any solely drug-themed songs. Huey Lewis and the News - I Want a New Drug
okay i'll do this. this thread is about "great" drug songs (there are thousands of songs about drugs). afroman aint great and neither are thier songs. they don't even rank in the top 100.
sorry man..... but in a couple of years no one will remember Afroman. and what makes a song "great" is it's staying power
Don't forget the album "Tonight's the Night", especially the title song, "Tired Eyes" and "Borrowed Tune".
The Velvet Underground mentioned before...but for me, 'great' drug songs begin and end with 'Heroin' by the Velvet underground I don't know just where I'm going But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can 'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man When I put a spike into my vein And I'll tell ya, things aren't quite the same When I'm rushing on my run And I feel just like Jesus' son And I guess that I just don't know And I guess that I just don't know I have made the big decision I'm gonna try to nullify my life 'Cause when the blood begins to flow When it shoots up the dropper's neck When I'm closing in on death And you can't help me now, you guys And all you sweet girls with all your sweet talk You can all go take a walk And I guess that I just don't know And I guess that I just don't know I wish that I was born a thousand years ago I wish that I'd sail the darkened seas On a great big clipper ship Going from this land here to that In a sailor's suit and cap Away from the big city Where a man can not be free Of all of the evils of this town And of himself, and those around Oh, and I guess that I just don't know Oh, and I guess that I just don't know Heroin, be the death of me Heroin, it's my wife and it's my life Because a mainer to my vein Leads to a center in my head And then I'm better off and dead Because when the smack begins to flow I really don't care anymore About all the Jim-Jim's in this town And all the politicians makin' crazy sounds And everybody puttin' everybody else down And all the dead bodies piled up in mounds 'Cause when the smack begins to flow Then I really don't care anymore Ah, when the heroin is in my blood And that blood is in my head Then thank God that I'm as good as dead Then thank your God that I'm not aware And thank God that I just don't care And I guess I just don't know And I guess I just don't know
Speaking of Floyd, the only full album/CD that should be mentioned here is "Dark Side of the Moon". From beginning to end, game over. Lights down, headphones on...
Some drug and sorta/maybe drug songs "Totally Wired" by the Fall (the second best British band ever, second only to the Clash) "He! Pep," also by the Fall "Looking for a Kiss" by the New York Dolls "Rocks Off" by the Stones "Lust for Life" by Iggy Pop
That reminds me, did anybody mention 'Chinese Rocks'? Johnny Thunders wrote it (and eventually succumbed to a fatal overdose), but I think it was after he left the Dolls.
Awww man, whats with the Afroman-hatin'. He was clearly hilarious in at least 2 ways. 1 being that he actually wrote a song called "sell your dope" which read like a manual for selling drugs. The second being that he's renounced marijuana and is now a preacher. I am very pro-hilarity. not mentioned: Sleep - Dopesmoker (also know at Jerusalem) -- It is a 60+ minute long masterpeice about weed. The first lyrics happen like 8 minutes into the song saying "Drop out of life with a bong in hand". The rest is about "weedian" people journeying to a "riff-filled" land. It is quite possibly the heaviest thing I've ever heard in my life and warrants a listen by fans of Black Sabbath. Matt Pike wrote it and is now in High on Fire. That being said - Heroin as played by VU was and still is pretty brilliant. Furthermore, did anyone mention "everybody must get stoned" by Dylan. The trombone in that song makes it.
Formally known as "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35". Have no idea why Dylan chose that title for that song. But true, the horns do that tune justice, sets a mood, certainly.
