http://transfermarkt.de/de/news/19034/07022008_1331/news/anzeigen.html FC Bayern Munich's Ze Roberto is leaving Bayern in 2009 and hoping to come to MLS. and he would be a great addition to our team IMHO. great midfielder, creative and the whole shabang. «2009 ist Schluss beim FC Bayern. Ich will und kann nicht mehr. Ich spiele schon zu lange in Europa», sagte der 33-jährige Brasilianer im «kicker»-Interview (Donnerstag). «Ich habe Kontakt zu einer Mannschaft in den USA, das ist 2009 eine Möglichkeit.« basically it says "I am done in Bayern in 2009, I don't want any more. I've played too long in Europe.".... "I have contact with a team in the USA that is a possibility in 2009" Let's bag him before someone else does. english link: http://www.goal.com/en-us/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=577339
he'll be nearly 35 when his contract with Bayern expires. While we could use someone with his technique and skill in midfield, I don't know that its worth stifling the development of guys like Gabe Gala and Joey Melo so that we can have one or two seasons of an aging Ze Roberto.
If we are still talking about Melo and Galo in 2009, TFC will be in a real mess. Neither one of those players appear to be anything more than reserve squad material. I say sign Ze Roberto.
IMO a big no on Ze Roberto. That kind of signing is why the MLS is a bit of a joke in europe. When you are looking for a DP hopefully you can get someone with a bit of life left in him instead of an old clapped out player who couldnt get a game anywhere suitable in Europe. The phrase "I have played to long in europe" (yes i know its only a rough translation) simply means he is not good enough already. I would like to see a bit more invention when looking for a DP, we surely have some type of scouting network who could find someone who wants to play in the MLS instead of resigning himself to it !!
another link with some info on it, says European teams are also interested. http://www.fcbayern.t-home.de/en/news/news/2008/15026.php?fcb_sid=de4b8459cc8072656b57bb4a3c9a71e4
Ze Roberto is a great player, possibly the only Brazilian who showed up at Germany '06. That said, at 34-35 and being a defensive central midfielder makes me say that DP money is not what we should spend on him. IF he came to TFC, id hope we only pay him respectfully but not enormously - not DP money. DP money would be better spent elsewhere IMO.
he started out as a winger, then played a bit as a DM, then when he went to Santos he became a creative midfielder (which he loved and was succesful at) and now he's back to DM at Bayern. He can hold his own in any midfield role on the pitch. Bayern has let in only 9 goals in 18 matches, thanks in large part to Ze Roberto.
I heard that Pavel Nedved is getting offers from Japan, for 5M Euros. I don't think the Japanease league is more prestigious than MLS. Why not use our DP slot on him. With MLSE paying that kind of dollars to Pavel Kubina and Mcabe why not actually spend wisely bring in a quality midfielder for the same amount. I know he's 35 but still a good player. What do you guys think?
I think he (Nedved) looks like the lovechild of Fabio and Patrick Swayze (sp?) btw, thanks for trying to hijack a thread.
Ze Roberto played a great game today for Bayern. scoring a goal and showing amazing speed all over the pitch. Any of you guys that are sceptical, jsut watch today's game vs. Bremen
Lamo... you were just as skeptical when I made the Figo thread. "Oh he's old" And Figo was named by his coach this season as his best player. I'd rather Figo > Ze Roberto as Figo could contribute MAJORLY to our offense, the place you want a DP to be in IMO and many other people's opinions apparently.
you obviously didn't see Ze Roberto's goal yesterday morning then You don't watch GolTV? ntm Figo is 2 years older and not nearly as physically fit as Ze Roberto, Ze Roberto said himself that he is hitting a "second prime" in that he's working harder and better than ever. and unlike Figo, Ze Roberto has actually made it to a world cup final. Once at Santos, Ze Roberto notched ten goals in just 35 appearances in a series of explosive displays, perhaps by way of thanks to coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo for handing him a free role behind the forward line.http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/clubfootball/news/newsid=540315.html that was last year, he's got 3 so far in 19 games this year despite playing as a DM, and the Bundesliga is far superior to MLS. Whereas Figo has scored 9 goals in 104 matches despite being an attacking player http://www.inter.it/aas/squadra/player4?codgioc=G0791&L=en&STAG=2007/08 Ze Roberto can do any role in midfield, it has been proven over his career. and why bring up Figo? he already said he doesn't want to come. And how's Figo going to contribute majorly compared to Ze Roberto, who has scored more goals in far less games? I will be proven correct, either when he plays spectacularly for us, or when we're fetching the ball out of the back of our net after he puts it there playing for another team.
Honestly i think the entire Ze Roberto debate just proves how un-ambitious we are. We need to step up the search for someone who can contribute for more than a single season.
Wait, you're saying because Ze Roberto scores a couple of goals against some poorer opponents (in a weaker league then say, Serie A , La Liga) and he's reached the WC final with arguably the best country in the world for putting out soccer talent, that he's better than Figo? Look at where they both play my friend. I don't like what position he plays, we dont need someone there, the DP should be used on an Attacking Mid who can play the Left wing, or a striker. Ze Roberto is great and everything in the GERMAN league, but he's far too old and so is Figo. Quit pushing him on us because he plays for your team.
Are you kidding me? you are way too overhyped on your Serie A my friend. Just because someone doesn't play in a certain league doesn't make them a worse player. Are you forgetting that Ze Roberto also played for Real Madrid? with them he won the spanish championship and Supercup. Are you claiming that the Bundesliga is somehow inferior? if so, why are players leaving Serie A for the BuLi? Toni comes to mind of course. I'm saying that he has proven he can score, whereas 9 goals in the last 3 seasons, doesn't show well for Figo. And we're looking for someone for MLS, his competition wont' be that great, so he will be in a weaker league, where Ze Roberto has experience, and well, Figo's still just an old man. Ze Roberto plays the left wing and AM, as I've said before!!! Or was that "look at where they play" meant to be a shot at my team? hmmm, 20 league titles, permanent holders of the Champions League trophy.... whereas Inter... ya, that's what I thought.
Riberry may be the best all round player on the planet, and he plays in Germany. TFC needs Ze Roberto NOW.
I'm not hyping up the Serie A. I don't even like Italian clubs. All i'm saying is it's a bit easier to play in the Bundesliga compared to La Liga, Serie A. Spanish and Italian clubs are always going deep in Europe while Germany seems to have 1-2 clubs who usually get swooshed away in the group stage. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ The Bundesliga has some of the best attendance figures in all of Europe, the money is there for the clubs, the owner have to overspend in order to attract some players away from the EPL, La Liga, Serie A. Ze Roberto could have 45 goals in the English 4th division and it wouldn't matter either. My point is do you think he can score those goals against a physical league and very mobile league like the MLS? (Of course you will, he plays for your club, unzip his pants and do it a little more) Sure the MLS is shit compared to most leagues in terms of talent, but one thing it's noted for is it's physical play and speed, something that totally fawked Denihlson (sp) last season for FCD. How do you know he will be able to keep up without getting injured or brushed aside by stronger players? I'm not saying Bundesliga is a weak league, it's just a different style over there, more finesse and creativity while MLS is rough and teams grind out victories. I don't care how many titles your club won, I could easily say "OH GET RUI COSTA" because the club he plays for (Benfica) won so many titles in a basically weaker league than most in terms of talents. The History of his club has nothing to do with if he's worth it or not. I don't think we should use our DP on a 35 year old for 1 season. If that's our only hope of a DP signing, God help the MLS and TFC. PS: I'm done debating this, go start a petition.
everyone knows the lions share of money is gained through TV revenue, and the BuLi has a focked up way of determining TV rights, and the teams get barely anything from TV. So there goes that theory of why they are going to the BuLi. what stronger players? Ze Roberto isn't a Beckham, he doesn't go on the DL for 3 months for a stubbed toe. Neither do I, Ze Roberto has atleast 2 or 3 season left in him.
Have any of you guys with this line of thinking actually seen Ze Roberto play recently? Granted, we are talking about over a year away still, but the man is far from washed up and at the moment there aren't many teams in the world who couldn't use him. As far as Bayern goes, he's really only been second to Ribery, who himself has been unbelievable. He's always had fantastic skill with the ball, but he's really impressed me this year with his defensive work - I don't know if i could even count how many inch-perfect tackles he's delivered this year at just the right moment. It's hard to say how much he'll slow down a year from now but he looks to have plenty in the tank so far, and he'll always have the talent.
Man, you know im all about the Bundi so of course I watched that game. And I was laughing a little when Ze popped in the equalizer. TBH I never knew that he was playing a playmaker role back in Brazil, and for him to play it well definatly surprises me. I can say one thing, Ribery is allowed to play the way he plays because of great central mids like Ze. Yet, to use a DP spot on him in a year or two would be a poor decision. However, to get him on a league max — an exelent decision (givin that we will prolly loose Edu in the near future) As for him not being able to compete in a physical league... he already is, I always though German soccer was more physical than Spain and Italy.
i dont know why people dont want ze robertoo, who cares if hes 35, he is gonna be a 35 year old, who is ur best player, , remember he plays for bayern munich, obviously if he is good enough to play there then everyone needs to cut the crap and whining, ze roberto and dichio would be a great combo alont with cunningham, u should hope u get him, stop complaining, and that goes to every MLS fan complaining about ages, o blanco is to old blah blah blah, and now what he shut everyone up,
