Joe is settling in and enjoying his time here. Or he's just waiting for a better offer. On not being called up to the U.S. national team: "I'm not worried. I know I'm going to get called into camp some day. And then, it's going to be just me and the other goalies. They can't hide. I'm going to be there, too, and if I can't beat them out, I don't deserve to be there."
What do you think about his comment that the Rapids are going to have to bring in players that don't "run when the going gets tough"? I think he was trying to frame it in the past tense, but it also can read that he's not entirely sold on some guys currently wearing Rapid uniforms. Basically, he thinks there are some "quitters" in Colorado. Perhaps too much truth? Last time we saw this, Carrieri was eating his words.......
Except the GK of the year from 2000? the MLS Cup Champion the 2004 Team MVP the 2004 League MVP and the 2004 GK of the year can say stuff like that.
Yeah, except I imagine that Hankinson cringed when he read that. It's one thing to say that kind of thing after the season (because there is going to be plenty of roster turnover anyway with expansion, ect), it's another on the eve of the playoffs. Teammates are going to be wondering if he's referring to them. The attitude "I'm great but others need to go" is not going to endear him to his teammates. It might be true, but to say it to a reporter is harsh.......
Actually, that may apply to players that have already left the team like you say. It's hard to know if he means any of his current teammates, but Cannon seems like the kind of guy where you know where you stand with him as a teammate cause he will tell it to your face. He'll be the first to let you know if you aren't cutting it when the going gets tough. He could be referring to Carrieri or Grimandi or even Zizi?? I like his attitude though. MVP-esque. Here's to a shutout tonight.
He's also showing he wants to be a team leader. He's saying get with me and we'll give it a go, but if you're afraid to get serious you can leave this off-season. I like it! I want more from him like this.
Yeah - remember last year not only was Carrieri running his mouth, but so was (at times, if I recall properly) Pablo Mastroeni. You need the credibility to open your mouth like this. Cannon has it. Mastroeni has it. Carrieri clearly did not.
