There is a great article about Guus Hiiddink in today's Age. http://www.theage.com.au/news/socce...1134703611945.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap1 Enjoy! The people in the know in Dutch football say we can expect a lot of changes to the Socceroo team in the lead up to the World Cup. Surprisingly (to me anyway), Mark Viduka was singled out as being too old.
That was yet another outstanding article from the SMH who are IMO providing the best coverage of association football of all the metropolitan dailies. The only bemusing aspect was Viduka's singling out from the Dutch observer. If there were some promising Aussie forwards emerging from the shadows it would be fair enough. Quite a few arguments can be made for replacing the older defenders with promising youngsters such as Michael Thwaite, Michael Beauchamp and Patrick Kisnorbo among others, but we are going to struggle up front in the next campaign if Viduka and Aloisi retire. I seriously hope this man is not suggesting that Viduka be replaced by Joel Griffiths or Scott MacDonald?
I am surprised how many ppl in the media cannot pronounce Guus. My uncle is dutch and he has got the same first name as Guus Hiddink. My mum is dutch.
No worries. FWIW the news reporters don't have a clue when saying Guus. They don't realise that the G in Guus is silent and is pronounced as an h.
