I'm playing indoor at the Rockville Sportsplex which has one of the newer synthetic fields called sofsport (http://www.usaturf.com/hummerturf/sofsport.cfm) that's supposed to play "like real grass". Question is? What type of shoe should I wear? Will my Sambas still work, can I wear firm ground cleats? Do I need to invest in some turf shoes? Has anyone played on this stuff or played at Rockville? What type of shoe do I need? Help a Brotha out.
If it's softer than regular astroturf then definately use firmground cleats. It it's as hard, use turf cleats. But I'm pretty sure you'll be most comfortable with your regular firmgrounders. I don't reccomend indoor shoes cause the will slip.
Ask the indoor facility if firm or hard ground cleats are allowed. Indoor shoes will have less traction than turf shoes but may get you through in a pinch. One of my friends used indoor shoes and had few problems. Maybe you can go to the field before your next game and check it out and check it out. I'm sure they will let you run around the field between games to test your shoes.
Thanks for the tips. However, I was wondering has any one actually played on this stuff? What does it play like?
I've heard people say that they've work firm ground molded cleats at the Rockville facility. My friends say they prefer wearing turf shoes, but not indoor shoes. Probably, though, just because they feel weird wearing outdoor shoes while playing indoors. I've never played there myself (heard its fantastic though) but if it's anything like the synthetic turf surface over at Gunston Middle School in Arlington (an outdoor field) you can definitely wear hard ground moldeds.
the surface has its pros and cons... you won't get any bad bounces on it, but its a bitch to slide on
Where I play indoor, we have something similar to that. It is like inch long astroturf-type material until you reach the dirt rubber mixture. I liked using my regular outdoor spikes (Copa Mundials). They performed well and gave me pretty good traction. I think that spikes are definately the way to go because this stuff is somewhat long. Hence, with the spikes, you can get the extra traction and turning ability.
I think what you all are talking about is what my highschool got this year. its the sprint turf, with the plastic grass like suface with the fine pieces of rubber raked into it. if so I recomend soft ground cleats, I wore my screw ins every game we had on this feild and I think it gave me superior traction to firm ground cleats. I loved the feild, very big and the surface is perfect. its kinda bad for sliding but is realy soft to land on when you fall. over all it is a great turf, but i still prefer and nice bermuda feild.
Anyway it doesn't matter what others think, because what's good for them might not suit you. Just take all the cleats you have to a practise and try each of them. Do some moves that require good traction, and go with the best feeling ones. Or wear each boot at a seperate practise and at the end you'll know if it was good or not.
the shoe in the upper snap is great ya i want a same and i think you should use it otherwise choice is yours. artificial grass orange county
Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. It is extremely helpful for me. ___________________ artificial grass fields
