Today’s Wall Street Journal mentioned the impact on athletics but you have to subscribe to get that article. This could ignite a firestorm. The NOW is against single sex schools but is amenable to segregation of the sexes in contact sports. Sen. Hillary Rodham-Clinton is now in favor of women only schools but I believe she is still opposed to male only schools. Meanwhile, ACLU is siding with the NOW on this. This directive was first floated at the end of the Clinton Administration, when the government proposed applying a quota to math and science classes, but not other areas of study. That proposal well as allowing single sex schools, was dropped at that time. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/03/04/government_plans_changes_in_title_ix_law/ http://www.centralmaine.com/news/local/442436.shtml http://www.thewbalchannel.com/sports/2882050/detail.html
Where are you supposed to give the feedback? I've skimmed the Dept.o Ed site...nothin. This is about shitting on women's sports, and as the father of a woman...well, of a little girl...well, of a toddling female, I am against any changes to Title IX. I want my daughter to know that she can choose a school on a multiplicity of criteria, and rest assured that just as much funding is given to women's athletics as is given to men's, period, without her being forced into some single-sex isolation she may not want... ********ing Bush. No, not a shot at women, but rather the Prez.
Nothing says, "Great Thread" quite like seeing Thomas Flannigan's name under THREAD STARTER, and Mel Brennan's name under LAST POST BY. All we need is Alex in here and we got us one for the ages.
Not unlike how it took you 91 posts to finally get one in that wasn't a link to someone else's opinion on the matter? I feel honored that you finally turned on your own opinion generator on my behalf, Mel.
Look, pal, this just in: your rectal corridor does not contain any hair care products. So quit contoring yourself in that direction in your misguided efforts to look presentable. (See, now THAT's an insult. Calling someone a "nitwit" is on the same level of...say....Bill O'Reilly always calling everybody he doesn't like a pinhead. Got that? NicephO'reilly? Oh, yeah, that's ANOTHER insult you couldn't ever come close to in your dreams). Meanwhile, I was watching a Tavis Smiley hosted forum on the state of the black family, and one of the interesting discussons was on the education of the young black male. One of the recommendations? Single sex classrooms.
You might need to sniff me more closely; I post a variety of ways, as I've told you before. Now from here on out, pay attention. BTW, a little FYI: 91 posts means 91 soccer-specific posts. These fourms don't change the tally, Smokey. Hope your head don't hurt wrappin' the old gray matter 'round that one...
Now really, would that be any fun? Ah yes. So in other words, you've posted links-as-posts hundreds of times more often that I first mentioned. My bad. Now let's not get too into this one, Mel. We certainly wouldn't want to get this thread closed before Alex and say, Sportboy get to add their worthless opinions.
(1) That insult (NicephO'reilly)...sucks. for you to give yourself plaudits over it is really pathetic. (2) Minority at-risk youth don't need single-sex classrooms; they need complete resources and commitment. If you have ALL girls at, for example, Stetson Junior High in Philly, but STILL have 30 kids in the room, 28 desks, and 25 books (with stuff like "Nelson Mandela dies in prison" in them), it will make no difference for all the students to go to the same bathroom. (3) That Tavis Talks special was the wosrt one of the bunch, and I wrote Tavis about it yesterday; even with Cornel, it was below-par, and started off by simultaneously calling for black people of every persuasion to join in, while opening/welcoming folks to the forum by excluding everyone but, really, evangelical Christian blacks. Wrong way to open a forum like that, and I told tavis that it was indicative of his ignorance or indifference regarding the reality of the diversity of existence among diasporan Africans in the States.
Is that my actual post total? Interesting. And take me forever OFF your fucking left-right continuum. And I AM a wonderful-looking, rare shade of Rococo chocolate...
Wow, I guess now I know that one throwaway line will bring forth a torrent of bad insults from Karl. I'll file that one away. That, and the fact that you can't take a joke.
No no. Peep this, right: posting FROM CONCACAF, on a SOCCER board. Not smart to post during work hours as "Mel Fucking Brennan." Most of you humps didn't have that clear problem. Thus, "Universal." Actually I was first "xbujinkan," but the former Director of Communications sussed that with an e-mail titled "Hello Newman; Hello Xbujinkan," so I passed "xbujinkan" on to Laurel, and became "Universal," which upon my resignation from CONCACAF immeidately became "Mel Brennan." To set that feculence straight. No, just outside it; it's old, and over. It doesn't even describe the world; it may never have descirbed it. Since I got here, I have always couched notions of "left" and "right" in terms like "so-called left," and the like, because we need to speak a similar language. But let's not mistake that for endorsement of that paradigm. Làpìch knewël!
No, you're not going to be allowed to get away with that. This is nothing new, and nothing difficult. Any pomposity is simply you wishing it so. To hijack this thread even further, I find it hard to believe you find the left-right notion fully, meaningfully descriptive; if you also do not, why not just say so, and quit the scrotum-grazing? Unless, of course you like that sort of thing. Shhh; less blah blah blah...more Cotton Eyed Joe.
I love when people trot out the word "paradigm" in a mental-mastubatory, look-down-your-nose attempt to condescendingly end an argument. Oh, wait. You have Chomsky in your sig. That explains everything.
No, it's because since the 1960s "paradigm" has meant "theoretical framework." Its 4:41 in the AM here; it's fewer letters. But here we are, with you making me type it out anyway, damn you. All the projection and word policing in the world won't change the fact that my family paid for a good Quaker education so that I could, in fact, make an effort to choose the precise words I wanted. Sorry if folks think that they are all synonyms... Good night; and nicely (because I KNOW you're watching, as you should be...)? Keep dancin'.
I learned two things about BigSoccer this evening. First of all, I learned the premium members cannot add moderators to ignore lists. It's against the "rules", I suppose. Second, I learned that Mel Brennan is a moderator for some forum on this system. Damned if I know which one, but I'm sure it's a riot to read.
No, pomposity is pomposity. And oddly enough, almost everyone here seems to agree. All I know is that I'm not "above it". Shouldn't you be busy with your follow up by stealing Harry Potter lines - there is no good or evil, there is only power! Just pretend Cornel West said it, and you can cream yourself over its intellectual brilliance.
As a veteran of many Thomas Flannigan Title IX threads, I have to say this is more entertaining than most of them.
He's the moderator for "My Personal Forum" -- no, not mine, his -- the one which is linked under his avatar. Somewhere, in the Suggestions forum, there is an old old thread which brings up the fact that premium members cannot be ignored due to the fact that they are all moderators of "My Personal Forum". Feel free to go bump it to ask for it to be fixed.
I thought Karl's insult was actually kinda funny, although the fact that I wasn't on the receiving end of it probably alters my opinion. But we're getting away from the real issue here: Who's your favorite Doctor? I have to go with Jon Pertwee.
