http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030206/ap_on_re_us/congressman_prison_camps_7 obviously the trent lott lesson has been learned....
Is this the same North Carolina Republican who made a similar Lott-esque remark a few weeks ago? What a moron.
Nah, this is a different guy. You may remember Howard Coble from his appearance on Michael Moore's TV Nation, when he appeared quite willing to whore himself out for a campaign contribution. Maybe you guys will understand a little better, now, my perspective on the GOP in the South and race.
I missed the MM thing, what happened? Being from Greensboro, (this moron's district,) I'm really curious. Any chance at a transcript link?
Yes, because bigoted comments are the sole intellectual (or lack thereof) property of Southern Republicans. Like Hilliard. And McKinney.
This guy should be given a one-way ticket to North Korea. McKinney should be on the seat next to him. Trafficant and Lott should be in the baggage compartment.
That makes it right, though, eh? Because Bobby Bird is(was) a Klansman, that gives all Republicans the exclusive right to speak out against all minorities threatening this great white land, right? The fact remains that the politican in question thinks that interning in squalid camps US-born citizens is not only good for the rest of us, but apparently the internees themselves, who are thus 'protected.' Protected from whom if not the Lotts and Cobles of this world?
Yes, that's exactly the point he was making. Great white land? You mean Canada? Anyway, you "el_urchino" sounds like a colored name, so shouldn't you be out tagging billboards or something?
Your powers of deduction are exceptional. I mean, surely a handle used on an internet messageboard must be either my actual given name or somehow referring to it. I may fit the description of a sterotypical WASP, but that doesn't mean that I wanna see 'all them coloureds' interned.
I do. All of 'em. Start with the dark ones. No, wait, the ones who don't speak English. Then the dark ones. I think we should start with you, because you spelled 'color' with a 'u', and that ain't English in my book. Now get in the truck!
Uhh, remind me again which party advocates discriminatory practices against Asian-Americans TODAY? That would be the Democrats and their support of the race-based entrance favoritism at the University of Michigan and elsewhere. THE most discriminated group as a result of that practice is Asian-Americans. So, count me as unimpressed by your "perspective on the GOP...and race".
Well, superdave, you've failed to convince the far, far right-wing. You must be tragically disappointed.
I assume this means you won't be supporting Edwards, right? Isn't this "race-baiting" in your book? The Dems' "Southern Strategy"? http://www.drudgereport.com/ed.htm Edwards has quietly set a Saturday afternoon meet 'n greet at the William Aiken House in Charleston, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. The controversial meeting at the Aiken House, sponsored by the South Carolina Democratic Leadership Council, comes as the NAACP continues its call for an economic boycott of South Carolina to protest the flying of the Confederate battle flag on the State House grounds. ...and... The Edwards gathering at the Aiken House, scheduled for 3 PM, marks a bold symbolic move by Edwards, who has pledged to "honor" and "endorse" the NAACP's boycott.
No. In superdave's world, white people acknowledging the Confederacy in this manner (having a reception at some "Confederate hero's" house) is "race-baiting". Or treasonous. Or maybe it just applies to white Republicans. You and I see only a building. Superdave sees something far more sinister.
Only if there's a blackface lawn jockey in front, and the SCDLC has been asked to move said lawn jockey, and the SCDLC has made jokes about it. That's when I see something more sinister. PS...for the "slow" people reading this, the above is a Cass Ballenger reference.
This is an amusing thread The GOP has a big burden to overcome, the stereotype that they are bigoted. A stereotype with some truth behind it. Trent Lott was stupid to not recognize that reality. Being the party of the country club doesn't help the image. The Democrats have their own albatrosses, too. Soft on crime, soft on defense, never met a bad commie. It seems like the winner in the political sweepstakes is the one who can successfully make those caricatures fit the other candidate. Clinton was a master of it. Dole and Gore were about as clumsy as I've seen.
