My initial opinion of Newsom was colored by my brother-in-law, who cheffed at a couple restaurants he owned and said he was a total asshole. That was before he even got into politics, but I’ve still had that in the back of my mind when following his career. He’s actually turned out better than expected, but it was a low bar to clear.

On the flip, my bro was down at the pit after 9/11 helping with logistics. He befriended some NY FBI guys who filled him full of "Hillary is horrible" stories. So 2016 rolls around and despite being intelligent, he voted for Trump.

Tennessee appears to be moving towards allowing county clerks to deny marriage licenses to people they don't like, especially gays but also interfaith marriages and interracial marriages.

I mean, yeah, hard to vote for anyone for a major office without some strong reservations. If he runs against a fascist white suprematist I won’t be happy about it but I’ll vote for Newsom.

His character flaws aren’t in the media’s storylines at the moment but if he runs for the WH that’ll change and everyone will understand how he was so compatible with Ms Gargoyle.

It didn't come up when he ran for Governor in 2018 (or in 2022, or in the recall election in 2021). I'm guessing that in 2018, he had enough of a commanding lead in 2018 as the incumbent lieutenant governor to beat out the other Democrats in the top-two primary, and when the second place in the primary went to a Republican, any character flaws didn't matter because we're not going to elect a Republican in California. And in 2021 and 2022 he was the incumbent and California wasn't going to throw him overboard and wind up with a Republican in office.

But yes, in a competitive national primary those things should come up for discussion and should be enough to keep him from getting nominated.

There is the usual murder porn aspect to it but i think there was also genuine shock at how a privileged white guy got away with epic crimes, including (initially) murdering his wife and kids.

Never going to happen. While “moderate” republicans lack the sadism of the MAGA crowd, what attracted them to the Republican Party remains the same…it’s the political party of selfishness and they’re still selfish people. As long as the MAGA’s don’t light their houses on fire while they’re Burning the country down they’ll be perfectly fine with the result.

I don't know a ton about Newsom. But if that's your takeaway after her personal self-destruction, then so be it.

Probably not mine either. Clearly the best choice among Democrats is Tulsi.

She is no longer a Democrat. She made the declaration that she is an "Independent" last year. She is "Independent" so she is a guest host on Fox and spoke at CPAC.

The best (and, currently, ONLY) choice among Democrats is Marianne Williamson, of course.

She has made Kreskin-like predictions on all these clowns. Like she woulda been a good president or something. We're in year 7 of Trumpy hell since he won't have the good grace to either die or be imprisoned.

So I've been told by others. It's all irrational fear until it actually happens, but then it's too late to do anything about it.

A while back, I read a few studies about that type of behavior. It is somewhat cyclical, and very correlated to age. IOW, 16year olds' kids were likely to have their own kids at 16. In this case, Boebert's son is 17, and that fits the pattern.

That's always been the case though.

A common complaint about Detroit I always see from non-Detroiters but live in Michigan is that Detroit is a drag on the state. Without Detroit, especially the metro area, Michigan would be nothing more than Iowa with water.
