And yet surely those things affect the exchange rate with other currencies? At least incrementally?

Inflation isn't really measured by exchange rate, because exchange rate can be affected by other factors - lots of nations have controls over how their money is traded and spent overseas. For example, Russia has had high (15-30%) inflation for years now, but their currency trades at higher and higher valuations. While in some places there is a black market of currency exchange that might paint a more accurate picture, lots of these manipulating government don't have a meaningful black market.

Someone needs to look into that Beecher woman…

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catharine_Beecher

    [i

In 1829 and 1830, Beecher led a women's movement to protest the Indian Removal Bill of President Andrew Jackson. The protest was the first national campaign on the part of women in the United States.[6]

In the bill, Jackson requested that Congress approve the use of federal money to resettle southeastern American Indians, including the Cherokee, to land west of the Mississippi River. In response, Beecher published a "Circular Addressed to the Benevolent Ladies of the U. States", dated December 25, 1829, calling on women to send petitions to Congress protesting the removal. In the circular, she wrote, "It has become almost a certainty that these people are to have their lands torn from them, and to be driven into western wilds and to final annihilation, unless the feelings of a humane and Christian nation shall be aroused to prevent the unhallowed sacrifice."[7][/i]

To put this injun loving traitor on the same wall as Charlie Kirk is nothing short of anti-White racism.

    1. Um, 47 and almost 50 are the same thing.
    2. Are you aware we have a tweet thread the purpose of which is to share other people’s thoughts, while the rest of the threads here are for our own thoughts? @Val, to me, that’s the purpose of the tweet thread (and also the cartoon/meme thread.). Those are places for us to dump unoriginal thoughts. The rest of the forum should be for our own thoughts. Casc keeps doing this lately. Is it ok?

I still don’t get the mentality of some activists, both left and right, who think that if they commit civil disobedience, they shouldn’t suffer any consequences, they shouldn’t be arrested. The Silent Generation that led in the civil rights era understood that actions lead to consequences. Nowadays, even folks fighting for the right cause expect impunity. KIng’s famous letter was from a Birmingham jail, not a Birmingham hotel room.

BREAKING: GOP leadership wants Tony Gonzales to end his campaign.

House GOP leadership called on Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas to end his campaign for reelection over a scandal stemming from his affair with a former staffer who later died by suicide.

"The Ethics Committee has announced an investigation into Congressman Tony Gonzales's conduct, and we urge them to act expeditiously. Congressman Gonzales has said he will fully cooperate with the investigation. We have encouraged him to address these very serious allegations directly with his constituents and his colleagues. In the meantime, Leadership has asked Congressman Gonzales to withdraw from his race for re-election," a statement from GOP leadership said Thursday.

Who won the Dem primary in his district? They’re worried about losing.

One thing about the Trump Era is, it’s freed the Republican Party from even pretending to have any concerns higher than winning. They don’t even have to fake having moral standards anymore. In fact, having moral standards seems to hurt Republicans with the MAGA base.

I thought the part of this incident where a sitting US Senator jumped up and helped break the guy's arm was the real takeaway, not that a protestor got arrested as I'm sure he expected to be.

I was commenting on the fact that the protestor resisted. That’s why his arm got broken. Not excusing the broken arm, just highlighting the contrast between today and yesteryear.

What was the purpose of the "shouldn't expect any consequences" part of you post?

Did this guy give any indication he didn't expect consequences?

??? Yes, when he held the door to prevent himself from being taken out.

Either I’m saying something you’re not getting or you’re saying something I’m not getting.

Om thinking of the clergy in Minnesota that did some kind of action at an airport. When the cops came to arrest them for trespassing or whatever, they didn’t resist. They understood the consequences of breaking the law->you get arrested.

So now Noem has been fired, up steps the next wacko MarkWayne Mullins..

Yay, but at the same time does it really matter?

All it does in the reichs eyes is "reset" the cruelty and law breaking meter back to zero so now the next asshole can amass some crimes until he too is gone..

its resume building at this point

Civil Disobedience 101 is you make it hard to be arrested. He knew he was getting arrested, that's why he showed up in ceremonial uniform.

And he's not even the worst that Oklahoma can give the United States...

Just wait until Stitt runs for his seat against Kern / Bice with Dominionist Dusty Deevers likely taking up to run for Bice's seat - which will be difficult since there's more church of Christers / Catholics / Methodists and minorities in OKCD5 and his base is Reformed Baptists in the Lawton Area
