Cracks me up that you had to google photos of Trump supporters just to make a retort on a message board to satisfy your TDS affliction. Given your age, I’m actually genuinely impressed you know how to Google and right click. Bravo, for real.
Hooray for 'Merica A pregnant woman in Georgia who was declared brain-dead is being kept alive by ventilators because of the state’s law banning abortions, the woman’s mother says, telling local news that the family has no say in the matter. April Newkirk said her 30-year-old daughter, Adriana Smith, began experiencing intense headaches in early February. Smith was nine weeks pregnant at the time with her second child, NBC affiliate WXIA-TV of Atlanta reported. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/family-forced-keep-brain-dead-pregnant-woman-alive-rcna207002
If the state is taking control of the woman's womb they should at least be making lease payments to the woman's estate.
Aside: “THE LEFT” may talk about transgender issues a lot, but the mainstream Dems sure don’t. They feel quite uncomfortable raising the issue at all beyond just saying “All Are Welcome”. The GOP are the ones who continually harp on the issue, just straw-manning that Dems and “THE LEFT” are too crazy. It’s all just stupid messaging. This is an excellent response by Stansbury. I think Dems should take the official position that we should let the relevant sports orgs set the rules for their own sports, and govt should only get involved in setting rules where systemic harm&abuse persists even when the legal route has been exhausted.
Great, thoughtful contribution to the forum Casc! Man, it would be a real tragedy if we were denied insights like this!
I mean I doubt it will go anywhere, but Democrats should support it. "XCLUSIVE: Conservative Sen. Josh Hawley plans to introduce legislation to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour." Kind of disagree on this. There is a controversy in boxing where different federations are allowing/denying trans/dsd boxers (primarily females) based on some regulation. There is one body who had a power struggle for leadership, a Russian guy won who is anti-trans, and moved the headquarters to Russia. In the UK, both the WSL and the Scottish women's league allowed dsd/transgender females to play in their leagues. Then a Supreme Court ruling said the definitions in an anti-discrimination law was wrong and that born with a vagina = woman and born with a penis = man. They did not consult/hear from medical experts. Thus, both the WSL and the Scottish women's league had to change their policy and no longer allow trans females to play.
In the case of the WSL and Scottish leagues, the government did get involved with the anti-discrimination bill, and it was ruled to have been written in a way the courts ruled as I described. But, as I far as I have seen, there is little motivation update it. Of course, I could be wrong. Regarding the boxing issue, how you deal with a federation that discriminates which has international jurisdiction? Saying that the fight can't take place in your country, say the US, just means that the fight will take place elsewhere. Or if the fight takes place in the US, it will not be sanctioned. It's a lose-lose. (MInd, I'm not against having it such that an international federation that discriminates be forced to have their matches elsewhere.)
Something I just learned about this morning. There is a plaque commemorating the officers to protected the Capitol Building and died. But Speaker Johnson, for some reason ( ) has not put it up. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/police-officers-lawsuit-installing-jan-6-plaque-at-u-s-capitol/ Two police officers who defended the Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack filed a federal civil lawsuit, asking a judge to order the hanging of a plaque to honor police heroes who protected the Capitol, lawmakers and staff from rioters. The lawsuit cites a 2022 law signed by President Biden that required the honorary plaque be hung by March 2023. The plaque has been completed and in storage since at least last year, but GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson has not committed to installing it at the Capitol. The dispute over the plaque has angered victims and inflamed a politically divisive issue on Capitol Hill. Republican leaders, who control the administration of the Capitol complex, have not honored requests by some officers and Democratic colleagues to hang the plaque, as required under federal law.
Sen. Mike Lee felt the need to make comments about Marxists and Gov Walz after the MN shootings. Sen Tina Smith confronted his stupid ass. And one could just switch out Glenn Beck for Mike Lee in this Onion classic:
My favorite thing is self proclaimed self made types getting told that they had help. Much as Trump has changed some things, this is vintage GOP. Much as I hate the generation stereotypes, a thing I've noticed is that there's a tendency for late era Boomers (1955-1963 for me) to act like they lived the hardships of the Depression and WW2 even though it was their parents or grandparents who likely lived through it. Or that they did everything through grit and determination, then it turns out they're the children of business executives, inherited wealth, lived off Social Security benefits (Hi, Paul Ryan), or had their partners working as well. Ironically, Ayn Rand, one many of those people idolized, also lived off government benefits. And family. Also, they don't have any plan. Nor any ideas. The GOP is in the 80s. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/06/21/republican-medical-student-loan-limits-00415741
The Reagan administration made the switch from financial aid being more grants based to being almost exclusively loan-based, hence the rise of massive debt (and a transfer of wealth upward, because the government provides the money which goes to colleges and which is repaid at interest to banks). So, yes. A Reagan thing. Though no Democratic administration did anything to change the basic structure.
