I'm all for posting the Ten Commandments in schools. Here are the (real) Ten Commandments (Exodus 34): 1- Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee: But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves: For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice; And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods. 2- Thou shalt make thee no molten gods. 3- The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib: for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt. 4- All that openeth the matrix is mine; and every firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male. But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty. 5- Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest. 6- And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end. 7- Thrice in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the LORD God, the God of Israel. For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear before the LORD thy God thrice in the year. 8- Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning. 9- The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. 10- Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
Not even pretending anymore: Husbands you can't leave, pregnancies you can't prevent or terminate, politicians you can't vote out of office — the GOP agenda for American women. pic.twitter.com/wsjYtu2N1d— Dan Savage (@fakedansavage) June 25, 2024

James Comer sent thousands of emails from private email addresses to perform official business while he was Kentucky's Agriculture Commissioner. Comer has frequently accused Biden of using private emails as part of his "Biden Crime Family" investigation. A few weeks ago, GOP Rep. James Comer’s office told me he can’t recall using govt email as Kentucky Ag Commissioner. I’d found 2 email aliases he used, so I made an open records request for all those emails. It just came back. There are between 1,600 & 2,700 Comer alias emails. pic.twitter.com/vvYHP3WHzZ— Roger Sollenberger (@SollenbergerRC) June 27, 2024
That's where, as with most red states, the state's liberals are clustered. You want Sandpoint. American Falls maybe. Pocatello, Burley, Kuna, Hailey maybe. I'm probably libeling some of those places...
I’m pretty sure this thread is where we talked most about gerrymandering, so I’ll put this article here: https://www.ksl.com/article/5106647...n-changing-voter-led-redistricting-initiative This is pretty huge for Utah. I’ve talked how the GOP legislature pretty much just hand waved away ballot initiatives that passed before, such as expanded medicare and the election commission being the two most poignant. From the article: Plaintiffs argued that the watering down of the ballot initiative went against the Utah Constitution, which gives "the people of the state of Utah" equal legislative power to lawmakers. In her opinion, Justice Paige Petersen rejected the arguments from the Legislature that lawmakers can amend or repeal citizen initiatives. "On that basis, the district court dismissed Count V (of the lawsuit)," Petersen wrote. "But a close look at the original public meaning of the Alter or Reform Clause and the Initiative Provision reveals that Utahns' exercise of these constitutional rights is protected from undue government infringement. Thus, these constitutional provisions limit the Legislature's authority to amend or repeal an initiative that reforms the government." She later added that the Alter or Reform Clause of the Utah Constitution "demonstrates that the people's exercise of their right to reform the government through an initiative is constitutionally protected from government infringement, including legislative amendment or repeal that impairs the intended reform." The opinion said courts should apply strict scrutiny to issues "where the people's right to directly reform the government through their initiative power is at issue," and said if the plaintiffs can establish that argument in a lower court, "the burden will shift to defendants to show that SB200 was narrowly tailored to advance a compelling government interest." Maybe Utah can secure abortion rights too, as our gerrymandered GOP supermajority is WAY more extreme than the electorate.
I haven’t been following the 2025 thingy by the Heritage Foundation. Trump and his cabal worked this up in the White House, yet Trump now with his usual MO denies it. Now has left the ball to roll his way so if he wins the election, he can express surprise, then implement it. Basically Project 2025 contains a litany of goals that range from mass deportations and mass federal government firings to a nationwide abortion ban and dismantling of the Education department. It also aims to empower Trump to directly control the Justice Department and the FBI. The New 1,000 year Reich with Her Drumpf as Chancellor? Backed by the SCOTUS of course
It won't be a Reich because of blue states willfully ignoring the laws. It'll be much, much worse. Germans let Hitler in. Americans are too polarized. It'll be worse.
I must say, I was surprised that cnn.com had Trump and Project 2025 splashed all over their front page this morning.
I really think the Liverpool supporting comedian deserves some credit for getting the ball rolling on this. [ just being tribal---I've always found him quite funny beginning with his Daily Show stint ].
longwells latest focus groups are POC voters who voted for Clinton and Biden. they sound a lot like @Auriaprottu ! really great analysis and interesting audio. highly recommend also calls into doubt the idea black women will insist on Kamala. these three groups were down on her especially because they know how racist and misogynistic america is. seems older genx mostly support Biden out of pragmatism given the stakes. anyway. this one changed my opinion on a couple of things.
