    I don't think it's that's complicated. Oil prices went up, gas prices went up, a significant portion of the population blamed Biden. Oil prices go down, gas prices stay up, that same portion still blamed Biden. These companies discovered they could practically charge as much as they want, and a rather large segment of the population would blame someone else. If there's no negative, why not keep your prices high to raise profits?

    Something I noticed is prices can vary as much as 10c per litre week to week with no explanation. Also prices still relatively high but 50c below peak

    i get a lot of the price depends on more complicated bets about future prices but I also suspect a lot of it is just lack of competition?

    eg the different brands have exactly the same price down to the cent.

    It was just odd that while some places in the Southern/Eastern/Mid US were reporting falling prices, down to about $3/gal, our prices didn't budge for another month+, and literally tumbled THE DAY after the election.

    I've never heard a explanation as to why gasoline zone pricing is legal. In DC I work in a high gasoline price zone and no more than 2/3rds of a mile away as the bird flies gasoline is $1 a gallon lower.

    the whole industry is bizarre.

    i was vaguely aware that it made sense to tank in the village on a Sunday afternoon and definitely not on the motorway at 3am but I don’t understand how prices change by a few cents literally by the hour yet there is practically no difference between the two stations on the main street into town at any time.

    It’s one reason i would like to go electric and have predictable prices.

    The how is easy. That gasoline station close to me pays a higher wholesale price than the one 2/3rd a mile away. That's why the retail is so different. To me it smacks of collusion because all of the major oil companies do it. Supposedly it has passed court muster though.

    Miller & Longwell have criticised this, Basically what happened is there are no moderate establishment GOP left. MTG is the MAGA establishment leadership - close to McCarthy and Trump.

    But because the media is the media, this far right group becomes the new "centrist' leadership

    But they are not centrist in any way. Centrists are people like Romney who position themselves between the far right and the dems

    It's alarming because these people don't even reflect the views of their own voters.
