That's a very easy assumption to make.

    Except math actually matters.

if something good was passed in this house with 100% Dem support and 5 moderate GOP…who would you credit? the Dems for their overwhelming support? Or would you give the GOP credit for their five votes?

Joanne Freeman has argued that it was like that in the 1830s and 1840s as well:

McCarthy reneged on the agreement he made to end the debt ceiling fiasco, and he allowed the sham impeachment to proceed. Why exactly should any dem vote to keep him as speaker?

So that's it? I was thinking it would be like that scene from Airplane. "The office of Speaker of the House is vacated." Screaming and panic ensue.

If Kevin had any dignity left, he would have resigned from the House but we know this dude has no backbone or moral integrity!

It's hard to imagine a paragraph more divorced from the reality inhabited by us. Dude, you're losing it.

Either tell us what deal the Democrats turned down in January and are turning down now or shut the ******** up. Seriously.

If I was in his position -- meaning, I had absolutely no principles, no political future, and had just been voted out because of the most extreme people in my own party -- I would switch parties out of spite.

My offer is this. Nothing. Not even the $20,000 for the gaming license, which I would appreciate if you would put up personally.
Repped. Like, why didn't Berhalter play the 5 Americans who play for Manchester City. Why don't we harness the power of Narnia to solve global climate change.

Kind of amazing that someone loses the speakership because he wouldn't let the government shut down.

There actually is a real, meaningful issue at the bottom, namely, a tiny group of House leaders keep getting more and more powerful, which means a party with 222 seats has about 3 kings and 219 peasants. I don't know what Gaetz actually believes, but I think our politics would benefit if committees had more power. More power centers inevitably means more ideological diversity, which our politics need.

    1) ******** you
2)I never said they turned down a deal. They never attempted one in the first place. Instead they voted as a block for Jeffries…which resulted in a Meadows speakership completely controlled by the most extreme elements of the GOP. Yet people here think that was successful. And think this approach is going to yield some sort of successful result
    3)seriously…******** you.

I'm so proud of my state now: Patrick McHenry is acting as the speaker.

You need to look up "minority" in the dictionary. Like I wrote, a walking, breathing Murc's Law.

As I pointed out to ASF, who is naive about the social mores of our politics, that it doesn't work like that. A rebel from the majority party makes the move. If you were previously not that naive, consider yourself educated.
