House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) “definitively” called for a vote against any procedural motion to delay the motion to vacate, Punchbowl News reports.

He also instructed Democrats to vote to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-NY).

The Washington Post says Democrats will not vote present and the caucus is unified.

The Guardian live blog has Kevin saying if 5 GOPs go against him he’ll lose the vote, the reporter responded “sounds likely” and then Kevin said probably so. It sounds like he’s counted the votes and expects bad news.

“His performance was a very clarifying event for Democrats,” said Connolly, who added he will vote to remove McCarthy.

“Hearing their words in the last 12 hours is all you need to understand,” Slotkin said.

2. There are definitely enough really dumb Republican members, combined with the Democratic caucus, for "Speaker Matt Gertz" to win a majority.

It’s even harder to imagine those ten surviving a primary challenge after putting Jeffries over the top. There will either be no speaker…or a Republican one. Jeffries thinking anyone on the GOP is going to “join us” is a pipe dream. Dictating the conditions of a GOP speaker is way more realistic.

Gaetz wins his vote by a small margin, and McCarthy is out. And then the House spends a week trying to find a new speaker and can't, and then the GOPs go back and reinstall McCarthy. That would be so, so epic. I mean, bad for America, but so, so epic.

WaPo says that may be what happens.

After last-ditch efforts to court Democratic support, House Republicans are now preparing for the likelihood that McCarthy will be removed, according to several lawmakers familiar with the dynamics who spoke on the condition of anonymity to detail sensitive conversations. Many Republicans have vowed to renominate McCarthy to the position and not allow the House to adjourn until he retakes the speakership, according to the lawmakers.

I went out for lunch and caught MSNBC in the drive. They’re predicting 5-8Republican votes for the MTV, so he’ll be ditched if all the Dems vote against Kevin
