Oh well..... Kevin is cooked...if Matt G can get 5 votes on his side, hasta la vista Speaker McCarthy!

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) “definitively” called for a vote against any procedural motion to delay the motion to vacate, Punchbowl News reports.

He also instructed Democrats to vote to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-NY).

The Washington Post says Democrats will not vote present and the caucus is unified.

The Guardian live blog has Kevin saying if 5 GOPs go against him he’ll lose the vote, the reporter responded “sounds likely” and then Kevin said probably so. It sounds like he’s counted the votes and expects bad news.

    To take this even further:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...mccarthy-house-speaker-vote-motion-to-vacate/

“We are ready, willing and able to work together with our Republican colleagues, but it is on them to join us” Jeffries told reporters after an hours-long Democratic caucus meeting.

    hehehe

    Also:

On Tuesday morning, Democrats met behind closed doors without their cellphones to prevent leaks.

Inside the meeting, Democratic leaders showed a video of McCarthy on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, in which he attempted to blame Democrats for wanting to shut down the government. The charge was a misrepresentation of the events of the past several weeks, when House Republicans were unable to fund the government with only Republican support. All but one House Democrat voted for the eventual short-term government funding bill.

Democrats inside the room were “outraged” at seeing McCarthy trying to blame them, according to Rep. Gerald E. Connolly (D-Va.).

“His performance was a very clarifying event for Democrats,” said Connolly, who added he will vote to remove McCarthy.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), who is close to Democratic leadership and also running for Senate, suggested after leaving the caucus meeting that Democrats are in no mood to help Republicans.

“Hearing their words in the last 12 hours is all you need to understand,” Slotkin said.

It’s even harder to imagine those ten surviving a primary challenge after putting Jeffries over the top. There will either be no speaker…or a Republican one. Jeffries thinking anyone on the GOP is going to “join us” is a pipe dream. Dictating the conditions of a GOP speaker is way more realistic.

Is it possible they'll switch to Independent, thus bypassing the primary challenge, and run as an incumbent in the general?

The Nihilist Caucus doesn't want a Speaker. They just want to watch the world burn.

WaPo says that may be what happens.

After last-ditch efforts to court Democratic support, House Republicans are now preparing for the likelihood that McCarthy will be removed, according to several lawmakers familiar with the dynamics who spoke on the condition of anonymity to detail sensitive conversations. Many Republicans have vowed to renominate McCarthy to the position and not allow the House to adjourn until he retakes the speakership, according to the lawmakers.

It's worth a shot, there's nothing to lose and you can put some conditions. If they don't bite, your fallback position is to let the Republicans deal with their mess on their own. Win-win.

    Agreed.

So the Dems choice is nobody…or a GOP speaker with something that resembles a fair set of house rules and the slight possibility that they can actually legislate

From CNN...who is the guy who does the "toast" thing in MLS N&A? Is that @Knave?

These are the Republicans who have said they will vote yes on the motion to vacate:

    • Matt Gaetz
    • Victoria Spartz
    • Eli Crane
    • Nancy Mace
    • Bob Good
    • Matt Rosendale
And these are the Republicans who are undecided, but who indicated they are open to supporting the motion:

    • Andy Biggs
    • Paul Gosar
    • Tim Burchett
    • Anna Paulina Luna
    • Wesley Hunt
    • Ken Buck
    • Andy Ogles
    • Michael Cloud
    • Lauren Boebert (She gave a "thumbs up" to Gaetz on the House floor)
    • Andrew Clyde
