Pretend you said something that you did not say? That was what you said (he is/was not responsible for the $30+ TRILLION of debt that we have been given by our ruling class).

I said that was what you said that he is not responsible for the debt.

You said, "Show me where I said that."

    I showed you.

    Have a nice day.

Nobody said that he was responsible for the whole debt.
    I certainly never said that.

Any President's direct influence on the debt is somewhat limited, but their policies and agenda certainly can contribute to it.
For Tr*mp, the stupid tax cuts on the rich and businesses he promoted, were passed by Congress and signed into law by Tr*mp, contributed quite a bit. That is just one example.

    From Newsweek.....1/18/23

In a tweet on January 17, former Republican congressman turned MSNBC contributor David Jolly claimed that around a quarter of the country's $31 trillion national debt occurred while Trump was president.

Jolly's comment was in reply to McCarthy, who wrote: "House Republicans are on a mission to end wasteful Washington spending. From now on, if a federal bureaucrat wants to spend it, they have to come before us to defend it."

In response, Jolly tweeted: "For context, roughly 25% of our total national debt incurred over the last 230 years actually occurred during the 4 years of the Trump administration. That's right. 25% of our entire national debt, all during the Trump years."

So you're saying it's the Democrats fault because they are fiscally irresponsible, unlike Republicans? Asking for the national media.

Not an oppo researcher. But I'd think one of the first things I'd do is verify the facts on the opponent's website.

We don't need no stinkin verification. Trump was golfing when the debt tanked. It happened when he wasn't looking. I think Marek will back me up on that.

We should try Warren Buffett’s plan.

Warren Buffett had a great answer for how to balance the U.S. Federal Budgetand pay down the U.S. Public Debt: “

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes. You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3 percent of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for reelection."

Unfortunately, that's pretty much the same sh!t that they are doing now and it would not force congress to raise taxes (the real problem) but to cut spending (what they GQP wants to do), and as a cherry on top it could probably bring even worse legislators than what we have now.

That would destroy Congress and/or destroy the Nation in 2 years.

Also, deficit is not necessarily a bad thing.

Cut spending only when Democrats are in office.

I love how they work - it's simply brilliant. When they are in office they cause a financial crisis that effectively requires massive expenditure by the next administration (usually a Democrat) to stabilize things.

They then become outraged at the massive spending that actually did help stabilize the economy.

They then get into office again and rinse and repeat.

It has "worked" (for Republicans) for the past 40+ years and, certainly since the 1990's.

Running theme? They discussed this with Michael Steele the other day as well, saying the same things.
I think the NPR Politics Podcast said roughly the same thing, sans talking about racism.

But I can't believe this is not the top story on every news website. This is where the editors needs to be held to the fire.

You seriously think anybody here would assume that? Hell, only clowns would even infer you meant that, inferred that, or was thinking he had either complete or no responsibility for that. We all know that the debt falls on the President's watch, and even then is only an increase or decrease. The debt really falls on Congress, but we know that as well.

Is there a reason you are being simplistic?

He's also saying that the Republicans increasing the national debt under Trump is bad for Joe Biden.

Yes - this is what is so annoying about MSM coverage.

Congressional GOP is wildly to the right of a Christian conservative guy like David French! There is nothing conservative about them.

I wonder if Biden's whole attitude will be to just accept the constitutional crisis and tell Treasury to continue as usual - saying that the debt ceiling is unconstitutional.

The problem, as we have seen in the UK, as this kind of shithousery could lead to massive turmoil in the bond markets even if the US does not technically default - there were quite big economic costs in 2011

You get nothing!! as Brian Schatz on PSA the other day. The Dems aren't negotiating with terrorists and seem fine to put a public light on this.
