“Why do we get blamed for the shitshow we run?!!” Absolutely fantastic, clueless quote here https://t.co/Zme36yrePM pic.twitter.com/jQcZOwpoCR— Parker Molloy (@ParkerMolloy) September 21, 2023 pic.twitter.com/QL1B6ylYDZ— @monkeyrotica@mas.to and @monkeyrotica.bsky.social (@monkeyrotica) September 21, 2023
Fun fact: Since 1995, there have been 5 major government shutdowns. The GOP controlled the House for all 5 of them. Stop giving these idiots power.— Angry Staffer 🌻 (@Angry_Staffer) September 22, 2023
I mean, it's the GOP. Everything is incoherent. I was reading a social media forum thread yesterday about how they all hate "elites." W - Son of a President McCain - Son of an admiral Romney - Son of a governor/CEO Trump - Son of a real estate magnate How can you hate elites and then choose them, again and again, to be your party's Presidential nominee? I mean, nobody can make any sense of that, Certainly not them.
At least the Cons of old like Nixon, Ford & Reagan came from fairly humble beginnings, made it and then hated on the poors and POC.
It's bizarre. That GOP proudly defended the bow-tie, prep school crowd but didn't nominate them. Whereas today's GOP pretends to detest such people while kneeling before them. Hell, I even left out Tuckums, who is as bow tie as they come.
Because "elite" doesn't mean to them what you think it means. It doesn't mean the wealthy who have access, it means the highly educated, non-Christian, liberal-minded people. To be elite means you think you know more than the average Republican church-goer. If you think you know more than the average church-goer, then you think you are better than them. If you think you are better than them, then you are elitist. That's why W was praised for being someone you could have a beer with - he wasn't some French-speaking wine-drinker like John Kerry.
Not only the House Clown Caucus want to destroy Federal government: Each Republican presidential candidate wants to shrink government more than the last. And none of them knows a lick about how the federal government actually works, write @NormOrnstein and @DonKettl.https://t.co/h7VgXX945e— The New Republic (@newrepublic) September 22, 2023 IOW is a feature, not a glitch. The glitch is that the HCC doesn't know how to do it properly.
Except that Donnie openly tells them that he knows better than them, and that he went to an Ivy League, and that he knows big words, but he is not elite to them. So I am afraid that I am going to have to go with Auria's definition as being the closest to the truth. "Elite" means that you don't have it out for black people (or if you do, the GOP base doesn't realize that is the case).
It all circles back because not having it out for black people means that you think you are better than the average Republican church-goer thus "elite"
Y'know, at this point it has been so long since the government was funded the normal, routine way-- create a budget, pass it, implement it-- that if the obstructionism ever stops, it is going to be a major research project to figure out how it used to be and is supposed to be done. It'll be like one of those cathedral repair projects where they have to search the hill country of Italy to find a 90 year old mason who remembers the proper way to dress the facing stones...
"And another thing. If they take away your club, would you feel safe against a vicious saber-tooth tiger?"
“I don’t think it’s even going to arrive — dead on departure.” — Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), quoted by TPM, when asked if the House spending proposal was “dead on arrival
Can we start placing some bets on Mc Carthy tenure as a speaker? I do not think he will see Halloween at this rate.
So the deficit decreased in 2022 from a high starting point but still. Then we the people give control of the house of reps to the GOP who insists on reducing the deficit. So in 2023 we will run a higher deficit than in 2022. The reasons, 4% government spending increase, but more importantly a 10% drop on government revenues. https://bipartisanpolicy.org/report/deficit-tracker/
Tax cutters aren't fiscal conservatives. That's one of the great political lies that should be challenged by the media more ofter than it is.
Skin is much too light. Light-colored skin didn't evolve in Europe (Neanderthal or modern human) until very recently - we're talking around the time of Stonehenge, if not afterward.
