Too bad this sad news is overshadowed by the Capello announcement. Apparently, he'd been ill for a while, suffering from cancer. Though mostly overshadowed by his older brother Gianni (who died last year), he accomplished quite a bit not only in calcio but also with FIAT. He still holds the record the as youngest president of Juventus, taking that role in 1955 at the age of 21. Under his guidance, Juve won their 10th Scudetto, winning that first star. He also served as president of the Italian federation for a period of time. The Italian U-21s will wear a black armband of mourning for their game on Saturday, as will the national team vs Tunisia on Sunday.
Sad to see the Agnelli boys both gone. Gianni was the more passionate football fan, but Umberto was the brains behind the business. Any chance Della Alpi will be renamed in their honor??
