NASL site front story calls them 'FC Tampa Bay Rowdies'. My guess is that they are making the correct move that many US teams should follow, that is combine the more 'international' names and the more 'traditional' US names in a way that works for everyone. Calling the team FC Tampa Bay officially and the nickname of the Rowdies does please both (sorry for these terms) but Eurosnobs and I guess Amerisnobs...is that a word yet? I really think this is a solution to a lot of clubs branding issues, where people can choose what they want to call the club either their official name or the nickname but both being acceptable. Sorry again for the euro analogies but Man United/Red Devils.

Wouldn't Tampa Bay Rowdies FC be a better name? Rolls off the tongue better, too. :p

And ya, Amerisnobs is a word now. Why? Because it damn well is! :D SO THERE!

i think it is totally up to the guys writing the checks...but if it were me I think it is clear to see the difference.

this is the 'football or futbol club' thus FC of a specific city - 'city name' FC

and they call themselves the nickname - in this instance Rowdies

FC Tampa Bay, FCTB, Rowdies, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Tampa Bay Rowdies FC
    all ok.

I would never be sitting in a bar watching Arsenal, and someone says Gunners and I would quickly correct them and say...wait a minute this is Arsenal FC we don't do that nickname stuff in this bar! It is all good. I say let teams have more international and official sounding names for people who like that stuff, and make sure you have a nickname that hopefully ties to your cities history and hopefully US soccer so people can still use the US nickname. I don't see any issue with someone referring to the same team as FC Tampa Bay or the Rowdies.

I actually like it. FC Tampa has a nice sound to it and their nickname can be the Rowdies. No lawsuit can stop anyone from using an unofficial nickname!

Only thing is that I wish they had changed the badge instead of photoshopping the FC onto it. Oh well, can't have everything I guess. :)

Legends Field seats about 11k so I wonder what the capacity will be for soccer. Anyone have an overhead view of this stadium so we can superimpose a soccer field on to it to see how it will look?

    Will a seating chart do?

Almost sounds like a Portland Timbers/KC Wizards setup if the right-field seats are used.

Yes, it does, in more ways than one. They need to change the name of all our leagues to the FESL, the Faux Euro Soccer Leagues.

so what's the scoop on this? is it because of the trademark lawsuit? that really blows that they couldn't come to an agreement on 'Rowdies' for the sake of the history of the game. i never even been to Florida but i always liked 'Tampa Bay Rowdies', one of the best names in sports IMO.

I'm not sure they dumped the Rowdies name. They're still using it in the latest press stuff. Seems they've gone the route the Sounders did by making the full name FC Tampa Bay Rowdies like the Sounders full name is Seattle Sounders FC.
