"Midfielders Jeff Moore of Gloucester Twp., and Jeff Matteo have both been released to make room for the Argentines."

    According to http://www.dailyrecord.com/sports/pro/sports7-metros.htm

But since Matteo was a Developmental Player, who moves from the Senior Roster to the Developmental Roster? Glowienka? Arena? Galvan? Forchetti?

    I'm confused...

    That's interesting

That's interesting - the Metros website has Matteo (as well as Nugent) listed as DEV players.

Can I ask a stupid question?

What's the use of having a developmental squad like Metro Black if we don't (can't?) send players like Moore and Matteo down there when roster issues like this arise?

I don't know what the actual benefit of MetroStars Black is to the MetroStars. It does make sense, however, that since Moore and Matteo signed contracts with MLS, they would be made available to other MLS teams through trades or waiver drafts before they were released from their contract with the league and able to sign with a PDL team.

Besides, wasn't Bradley quoted some time ago as saying Jeff had the ability to be a starter on other MLS teams, just not here with Richie and Rico?

Well that wasn't evidenced by his actions, as both Regan AND Arena got into games at D-mid ahead of both of these Jeffs.

It just seems to me that if Metro Black is going to be of any use, there has to be some recognition that it is not just another PDL team, that we have some rights to send players down and call them up. Otherwise, when we even have to draft the prospects that come up through the team (like Faria), its pretty damn useless. Maybe MLS can allow one developmental team per club, and give them special rights to move players. Wouldn't that make some sense?

I wonder if brother Jeff is aware that brother Bob just bopped two "Jeffs"?

    We saw that one coming!
My only doubt was between Addo and Moore but it's clear what Bob wanted.

I agree that would be ideal, but I'm sure it's a financial thing. If MLS still has to pay people under contract that are sitting on reserve teams, that player's salary still has to count towards the team's salary cap. The first attempt would be to put that player on another team filling a productive roster space. If that can't be done, the player can be moved out from his contract (how does that work, anyway?) and join the dev team probably at a greatly reduced non-salary cap cost, or for free. Do Metro Blacks get paid? If the Metros were responsible for all their own financials, they could do whatever they want. The other way to do it would be to give teams financing (and budgets) for their reserve teams.

Just seems like Moore would have been more useful than Leitch or Addo from what I have seen in the games the past 2 seasons. Moore must have dropped this year in the coach's opinion. I would have thought he would play better than addo or Leitch from his past but I guess Bob knows what he wants.

Matteo I've never seen actually play. But Moore reminds me of myself as a defensive mid: very hard-working, a lot of heart, and even thought he wasn't necessarily technically gifted, he always did his best to hassle the opposition's #10 or attacking mids. I wish him the best of luck, same for Matteo, although I've never seen him play.

someone wrote earlier that matteo isnt a DEV, he is, or was that is.

From MetroStars release when traded for..."The 22-year-old Matteo is a product of St. John’s in Queens, New York and made one appearance for the Crew in 2002. The developmental player from Stormville, New York was selected by Columbus in the second round (20th selection overall) of the 2002 MLS SuperDraft."

Moore's problem was that he was never really a defensive midfielder, just a good athlete thrown into that role by Octavio last year. When a coach came on board that had a clue, Moore moved to his natural right-sided position, where he just wasn't good enough. Moore is a right midfielder, but not skilled enough to help the Metros and get Bradley to deviate from his current formation, which leaves the right flank open for right back Ziadie to roam.

A defensive midfielder is more than someone who knocks down the opposing attacking mid all game. The D-mid should be able to initiate the offense, transition the all from the defense to the attack and also be able to hold the ball. Moore couldn't really do any of these at D-Mid so here was therefore doomed to be cut.

I had thought Addo would go before the Jeff's, but looking at the schedule ahead, this move makes sense. We aren't likely to lose Williams and Clark to the Nats this summer, but we will be missing Pope for a bit. Addo becomes a valuable man for that stretch of the season.

    I'll answer this one:

    Do Metro Blacks get paid?

Yes, they outlawed slavery 140 years ago.
