Italy currently has the most Clubs left in the Champions League and UEFA cup combined. Italy (4) Champions league: Milan, Inter, Juventus UEFA Cup: Lazio Spain (3) Champions league: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia Holland (1) Champions league: Ajax England (1) Champions league: Manchester United Portugal (2) UEFA Cup: Boavista, Porto Scotland (1) UEFA Cup: Celtic Germany (0) ?? It's a strong showing for Italy, Do you think that Italian Club Football has re-emerged? Judging by results of late I'd rate the Italian Serie A higher than the English Premier League.
I've always rated italian soccer higher than english. The english league is, in my opinion, overrated.
LOL I didnt hear any of this the last 5 years.. hhmm wonder why?? In fact I didnt hear any this only 3 weeks back after manure played in turin. Lets wait until the trophies are handed out before anyone starts bragging..
And you are saying that the english clubs are better? One is still in, and they have only won a CL once in the last 15 years or so. What is so funny? I wrote something in UEFA and Europe secton or whatever at the start of the season that I thought this would be the Italia is back. It would seem I'm right.
http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/foot/c1/alltime/ Champions league winners list... Gotta go back to 96 for an italian winner... 7 years since the last win.. whats that all about??? why the total failure to win anything for so long?? But if you want a live in world where only results over a 15 year time scale count then you can pat yourself on the back..lol I live in a world where recent results over say 4 or 5 years are more relevant... Those recent games look pretty grim for serie A.. tut tut tut
soccerfan, please don't feed the troll. Just enjoy the current good run of fortune. For that's what I believe it is. I don't think Italy's "back" any more than I thought Italy was "gone" in the first place. All sports move in cycles, and I suspect Germany (and England ) will be "back" before too long as well. Writers just need something to write about.
Yeah anyone who disputes a football issue is a troll.. Just move this thread to the uefa forum and then I can really take soccerfan to the cleaners.
By the way, over the past five years, Italian teams still have a better UEFA coefficient than English teams. I'll grant you that the last two years have been down ones.
Oh thank goodness, thank you for differentiating from 15 years to a more "realistic" 5, it has made all the difference. No, not really though, terrible logic mate. Time and time again its the same thing with you, laughable logic. If we're going to look to the past, then all past glories are fair game not just the ones that favor your opinion or your argument because that wouldn't be fair would it? The other alternative? We could forget about the past, in which the argument for calcio is stronger and dwell simply on the present situation where, oh gee, our calcio is still stronger. I'll be fair and leave that up to you, totally your choice mate. Italian sides have recovered from recent failures and all your jokes and commentary are thus rendered irrelevant. Your little tirades are over now, you've run out of material. Off you go, scoot.
This season aint over yet ,drama queen. who is to say that all the serie A teams wont slip up in the next round?? If manure win the cup and serie A comes home empty handed then...well you know what will happen dont you?? You'll be straight back in the football doghouse. I knew the serie A fans would rediscover the old laughable arrogance as soon as they had a half decent year.. I have to admit I had a good time sliding the old slipper into the serie A fans during their failures.. It was hillarious IMHO.
well we must have had afew good years considering that we hold the record for most euro trophy wins... and being high ranked in the uefa rankings suggests good performances... LOL at that you plum. lmao
Not quite, you see for the last few years the knock on Serie A has been that they haven't even qualified for the later stages of Europes top competition. That has been your main fodder, so I'm perfectly content if all the Italian sides go out in the quarterfinals as far as ridicule goes. So this is how your logic goes: 1)Serie A clubs don't make latter stages of Champions League. 2)Ergo, you ridicule. 3)Serie A clubs DO make latter stages of Champions League. 4)Ergo, you ridicule their lack of winning the competition. Changed the stakes a bit have we?
I think the Italians have done pretty well this year. I wasnt gonna say anything until I saw the arrogance on this thread. I didnt even say a word when juve got slapped by manure in the Stadio delli alpi. I thought to myself "no I wont pass any comment ,they've had enough punishment"... Fortunes change quickly in euro football... last week we still had 4 teams involved and now we're down to one.. same thing could happen to italy or spain in the next round...The serie A fans are already trying to take the piss before things have been decided.. That could backfire if manure lift the cup..
Oh, my god, hell must've frozen over. I actually agree with you. The key to me is the use of the word "fortunes". Yeah, you have to be good to be lucky, but when it comes down to the quality of club at this level of competition, a little bit of luck (good or bad) goes a long way. Is Arsenal - honestly - not one of the top 8 teams in Europe? You couldn't have convinced me after their first-half performance vs Chelsea yesterday. But here they are, sitting at home with a mere domestic double as their best hope for glory.
I personally think that arsenal shot themselves in the foot but yeah...a bit a luck here and there doesnt do any harm. This year aint our year..its as simple as that really. Maybe manure can redeem the league and win the cup.
This is the first year in a long time one team hasent run away from the rest...i dont think its very easy to prodict who will be champions especilly with teams like Man U and Real have some tuff spells lately.
