They needed this win. Good thing Magee scored one. What happened to DiGiamarino? I was watching the U.S. game in the first half. Looks like Mathis will be back next game.
This match was a great turn around from last week's lame performance. They were vastly outshotting LA; which was a great help to Grafer(He needs a bit more practice; this was his first regular season win since 1997!) Well done Magee. Keep em comin'. I am relieved; to say the least. Let's hope they continue this trend.
I'll agree with the great turn around! I don't think I've had my mother complain more about the lack of goals in the first half since the game one. I'm glad that they won this week (and that it was a shutout for Paul); if they lost and my friend heard about it, she'd blow her top. I'm sure she would hunt someone down, especially since Paul wished her a happy belated birthday when we met him on Wednesday.
Very nice game by all our midfielders. A lot of beautiful play by these guys especially lisi and Guevara.
Being there in the rain, watching them win, was a beautiful and sufficing sight. I was so happy I was able to toss off the Nats loss to Brazil with an indifferent shrug. And later, learning of Chicago's loss, keeping us on top with 20 points, was just gilding the lilly, icing the cake or creaming the crop. Take your pick. Football is funny that way.
It was a great win. It will do a lot for their confidence knowing they can win even if they are missing 4 of their biggest names but what's more important is they played well for most of the match. This wasn't a fluke.
Definately a good performance. The bad weeks will be the exception, not the rule. With the U.S. team mathematically eliminated from Copa Confederaciones and everybody back next weekend (except the injured Pope), they should look even better. Remember, as of this Saturday, the Metros will play 3 matches in 8 days. Plenty of opportunity for everyone to see action. A word on Moreno. Yes, putting him in was risking the game, but Bob has to find out how the guy's doing. Bradley wanted him to get some game time to have an idea of how he'll be able to use him with the heavy workload coming up next week. He's very slow, but with Guevara, Mathis, Magee, and Galvan doing all the moving around, Jaime won't need speed, just wise positioning, to hopefully be effective.
I wonder where all the doom sayers are now who were so worried about our lack of depth/youth playing. This team is beginning to get scary in its depth, with our one weakness maybe being on the wings. So much so, in fact, that we might see a trade soon for a consistent wing back or winger.
It seems to me that this title "Good Win" is a possible violation of BigSoccer rules. But since moderators permitted it, it must be OK?
I thought Guevara too often was trying to show off his exceptional skills at holding the ball by dribbling through 2 and even 3 guys instead of passing it. Yes, Amado, everyone recognizes you can hold the ball wonderfully - can you pass it, too? Tom Beck MTID
