Good vs Evil: The Final Battle of 2002 - Official PRE Match Thread

DC United vs New York/New Jersey MetroStars

This season's final battle between Good and Evil.

This season's final match in the Atlantic Cup - which DC United leads.

This season's penultimate official pre-match thread.

We're without Reyes, Nelsen and maybe Williams (right?). And there's no Moreno and no Q1. We're without hope for the playoffs. (C'mon. We all know we're done with.) But perhaps we can deprive the MetroStars of their playoff dreams!

    Their misery is our happiness.

    NO FLAMES
    NO TROLLS
NO NOTHING THAT MOM WOULDN'T APPROVE OF

I was pleasantly wrong in my prediction of yesterday's game.

I want to be exuberantly right in my prediction of tomorrow's epic battle.

    DC United-1
    Metrostars-0

    Cleat Check...

All I have to say is this: The refs better check the players for brass knuckles and trench knives before kickoff on Saturday.

    Good: 2
    Evil: 1

The big question now is: Will Cletus Mathis get liposuction in the offseason? ;) Man is that guy fat.

I predict at least 2 red cards, 2 brawls, and DC United whips butt and takes names.
Metroscum will be seen post-game in search of Greater Southeast Hospital.

This one will be nasty. I would expect MLS to assign Brian Hall to the game.

We win, they go home crying, I go home happy.

I hope Richie is not suspended because I would love to see him get one last shot at TABitha!!!!

Our boys will prove on saturday that they might not have had the season they expected to have, but they will have one of their best outings on saturday. Yes, DC will be without a few key players, but that doesn't deter the will and determination to rid the galaxy of evil and villany.

Brain Hall might be called into this one, I also suspect a few phone calls will have been placed by Garber and such to the head offices of each team. Last nights game was brutal. But we won and thats what matters.

i love aunger! he is still my all time favorite DCU player (and you thought i'd say suarez ;) )

actually, maybe it'll be like pro wrestling, our lads getting knocked around and all of a sudden, aunger comes running out of the locker room and gives diallo a real reason to lay on the ground...

Both teams come out swinging--Metrostar's starting to get a little nervous, realize they need three. Our boys fought hard and fearlessly, and liked the way it felt. Rimando is incredible.
    Good: 1
    Evil: 0

The quality of play will be better, the first half will not be as painfully boring as last night, the second half will be equally nail-biting.

Metrostars will head home, check the results of the Rev's game, and realize their playoff hopes are in jepordy. A great rivalry is re-ignited.

This game will be abandoned before the first half is over due to not enough players on the field to continue. Diallo will be out for blood and I think he'll get it. I never thought I'd say this but I do hope that Hall is the ref, St. Silva was a disgrace and never had control of the game.

Agreed. He needs his name shortened to Silva.
I expect yellows out in the first 5 minutes of the game regardless of who the ref is. One for each side (Clint and Benny).
At least the game will be able to be played on the ground and passes will be able to be made.

As said above, I think Garber will be making a few phone calls to Hudson and Zambrano saying their salaries are on the line here.

That said, I think the better field conditions will help make the play cleaner too. Remember our recent e-Quakes series? That first game on that tiny field in SJ was very testy- Donovan and Graziani flopping all over the place, Prideaux and LD mixing it up, Lagos getting huffy with Olsen, etc. But the second game at RFK was pretty civil with only minor, normal, incidents taking place. Part of the credit had to go with the larger and smoother RFK field keeping the flow of play smoother and the players more spaced apart.

The just completed game in the Swamp was on an awful field that had both teams really struggling to get a decent hop and I think we underestimate how much that bothered the players and put them into a combative mood. In that sense, I'm glad St Silva didn't start tossing players. I'm not interested in seeing bpth teams having to call up A-leaguers to play tomorrows game.

That said, owendylan is right- Diallo will be out for blood. And this time there will be some red cards shown if play is anything like last night.

Not that I'm advocating this but

Victory = Pitch Invasion to celebrate

Defeat or Draw = Pitch Invasion to mourn

Even with the loss of players DC United can get it done. I don't see how Diallo, Mathis, and Ramos can possibly be ready for this game in less than 48 hours! Look at that injury Diallo got from Reyes, it nearly corkscrewed him into the ground... Wow, that must have been really awful... And Fat Mathis is never going to get his beer swilling self away from his taps before Saturday. Of course, Ramos got a hangnail last night and will be out for 6 to 8 weeks... :)

I'd like to advocate everyone bringing an extra person for Saturdays game. I'm bringing two people that have never been to a game before. I'm gonna make it my mission to make The Barra as loud as possible.

The problem is actually making contact. He collapses when you get with in 3 feet of him. Must be something to do with the air pressure around him.
