Since D.C. United is out a third straight year, I'm going to pull for the Burn these playoffs. Why? I went to high school with their coach Mike Jeffries and always root for Whitman (Bethesda MD) alum. Former Burn goalkeep Mark Dodd remains one of my all time favorite MLS players. El Jefe came up with the best nickname for D.C. United, Dips United. I still like it seven years later. I like to say DC's fans are amongst the best in MLS but I remember game 3 in the '99 playoffs vs Chicago. This was one of the best games where the fans in the Cotton Bowl did not quit cheering despite being down early. Best of luck. Bring home the title and most of all, enjoy the hell out of it. Bill-DC
I think I just realized that D.C. United is the only team in MLS I really don't mind. Sorry for having to put you out D.C., and thanx for the support. ___________________________________________ ~Ryan BURN TO BURN
Thanks for the support, Bill. While the last few years have been tough for DC, at least you guys have some good ol' days to look back on. Let's hope 2002 is the year the Burn rise out of mediocrity! For what it's worth, here're how the teams break down for me: Teams I don't mind: DC, NE, Columbus, and Colorado Teams I dislike but respect: Chicago, LA and San Jose Teams I dislike/detest: KC and NY/NJ
Thanks Bill. I will be out in DC soon, and in honor of your temporary rooting for America's Team, I will illegally feed the panda's at the National Zoo some Dippin' Dots, or whatever is cheapest at that snack bar/gift shops...
Since my team is also out of the playoffs (not officially, but even if the Metros do make it, as long as OZ is at the helm, I don't think anyone will notice) I'm also pulling for Dallas. Chicago is dirty, KC is boring, Colorado just bothers me for some reason, LA has Ruiz and I HATE Ruiz for the Keller incident, SJ has Donovan and Graziani and I hate divers, Columbus is obnoxious, and NE was gifted half their team in order to make the final, so that alone is reason to root against them. Dallas built their team over time, through the draft and intelligent discovery options, they have quality fans, a great coach and play a nice style of soccer. Best of luck. JMac
Now that it's a mutual love fest... I went to opening day at RFK a couple years ago and was impressed with the atmosphere. Those fans were genuinely passionate and deserve better than they've gotten. I hope that DCU can come back as the league could use those guys. After seeing the match, DC became my second team. Incidentally, although I'm sure it's a bad lease and a big old multi-decked bowl, I thought it was a great place to catch a match.
