Just wondering. Or a Ricketts to play for US. Or McBride to defensive midfielder. Or Friedel to the Cowboys. Or something! I know I'm the mod and should be coming up with tintillating topics to analyze and discuss. But, geez, you've spoiled me so, I'm out of the habit.
I have had the sensde lately that success is spoiling this board,. No one can argue that we suck anymore. It's kind of dampening. I mean, where are the Karl Keller-Nutmeg knockdown-dragouts?? Oh, the halcyon days of yore.
Re: Re: Good God! Where's a Reyna to Right Back Thread When We Need It? How are you supposed to get McBride and Reyna playing right back at the same time?
Re: Re: Good God! Where's a Reyna to Right Back Thread When We Need It? McBride is the 3rd keeper, Reyna has the right back position locked down as long as Ben Olsen is injured. Duh.
Re: Re: Re: Good God! Where's a Reyna to Right Back Thread When We Need It? If you have Reyna sitting on McBride's shoulders, you'll have a right back about 8 feet tall!
I think Reyna should play right back. He played there for Rangers and my friend said he did very well.
The ref sucked. It's no wonder we lost. Another nocall on an obvious penalty, while they get PKs for their dives.
Yeah, but that was only their "K" team... hell, it might've even been their "M" team. We would've won if Arena knew as much about tactics as I do.
Hopefully Reyna will be at right back or on the bench by the next World Cup. Not because I don't like him. I just hope we find the talent so that Reyna is a luxury. However, from this view two years away, it seems obvious that Reyna will have a midfield spot when qualifying starts. (if he wants it)
nancyb, I tried my own version of a "Reyna to Right Back" thread, but Various Styles called my bluff. It was fun while it lasted.
As a reward for the BS posters unflagging dedication to the cause of US Soccer, it is clear that for Germany06 the BS posters should be allowed, nay, required, to elect one of our own to start at Right Back in the first game. If our RB does well, we should be allowed to have a BS poll to select the starting 'Keeper for Game 2, and if he (Our Guy) wins (singlehandedly or otherwise) Game 2 we should, as a group, be allowed to specify the menu for the team breakfast before Game 3. Its the least thats owed to us.
Only if the games were on Fox. Speaking of which, why doesn't some other network pick us up? The coverage on ESPN sucks and they never show highlights.
Let's get a little perspective. At 28 or 29, Claudio is RIGHT NOW a top player in center midfield for an English Premier League team. If we put virtually ANY other player in our pool in the blank "_________________ is a top player in center midfield in the English Premier League", well folks on this board would be palpitating with ecstasy at the fact we have a guy in that critical role in one of the world's top leagues. But Claudio is like Rodney Dangerfiled -- he don't get no respect from SOME around here. Meanwhile, do we have the talent NOW to replace this potenial "luxury" player? That question admits of an obvious answer. Now qualifying is a marathon, and there's going to be a lot of mileage added to Claudio's engine. But I simply can't see him, especially in the early round of qualifying, NOT being a key guy (though not an indispensable guy) and a serious difference maker, unless injured. But I think JK gave us a hint of how Claudio's role might develop over time. And that is, as a key guy in a number of midfield slots, depending on opponents and matchups. In the past, he would be inked in as strictly a center mid, and as a guy we almost absolutely HAD to have. By the end of the next cycle we may see him play some center mid, some defensive mid, some outside mid. Snd, as we did in J/K, he will be a guy who is extraordinarily helpful to our success when he is in there, but not a guy whose absence leads inevitably to failure. However, I think if we have to dragoon him to play right back, then in fact our player pool is WOEFULLY shallow on the defensive side of the ball. We should be three deep at that position with guys who are making a living playing THAT position primarily. Unless, of course, he winds up playing THAT position in a top league, day in and day out. Then it might make sense. But I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.
