I was surprised by this trade. Although Lenhart was maddenly inonsistent at times he brought heart and played 100% whenever he was on the field. He was also a positive off the field with both Crew activities and in his charitable work. My guess is he will be sorely missed. Hopefully the team got more than just a little money for the trade.

We did. We got the 15th pick in yesterdays draft. Plus we got rid of one of the most foul commitent forward in the league.

I'll miss Lenhart, he was a good guy, and a serviceable forward. But, we got a first round pick and 75k in allocation for a 4th round draft pick from three years ago. That's not a bad return on the investment, especially if Meram turns out to be solid.

I will miss Lenny, but I was firmly in the camp that wanted Renteria up top with Guille. If Guille was out, I favored Renteria + Mendoza (or even one of Gaven/Ekpo/Rogers).

Lenny was a great guy and did some valuable service, particularly that late goal @KC in the first round of the 2008 playoffs. I wish him well in San Jose. Up top, we've lost Lenny and Garey and replaced them with Heinemann and Meram (and maybe Jeff).

I guess the real thinking was that the kid had one year left on his contract so its better to get something that nothing.

However, the team is now down to one forward. It better fill that gap ASAP.

Umm, Lenhart was expected to be a backup to Mendoza and Renteria this season. We also have Meram and Heineman in hand and probably Cunningham as our 3rd forward. JC is certainly a massive upgrade from Steve or Jason.

You keep stating this as fact, but I'm not sure why.

I'm also not sure that you are incorrect, but certainly, JC has not called or texted you to say, "No way will I play for Columbus again." has he?

So, I guess, I wonder what irrefutable evidence you have to make such a bold statement.

Had this been the "playing time for JC" thread, I would have had the most-perfect response. But, i'd rather not take this thread off topic.

Maybe its not fact, but I believe there is a very small chance he signs with us. In the 3+ weeks since he was drafted, how much progress has been made in negotiations? Now whether that's the fault of the FO or him, IDK. But I think he has made his feeling pretty clear.

Then, after doing his thing in Norway, he told the team he wanted 300k/year, to which they replied "seriously man? You're 34 and you couldn't hold down a starting spot. We'll give you 100k/year."

After weighing whether he would rather live in the middle of bum-nowhere in Norway or Columbus, we get a quote from the Crew FO saying "we're cautiously optimistic about signing him."

Something tells me that reality check will be a far more powerful negotiating tool than anything McCullers can bring.

Never heard this one used. And it is not immediately evident how/why he earned this one. Backstory?

Added. I forgot new BS rules don't allow you to edit a post after a certain time.

New? That rule has been around for a long, long, long time.

(Unless it was recently changed, but I don't think so.)

I'm pretty sure a lot (or maybe some) of us called him Lovetron after one goal celebration he did. I forget what exactly the story is, but I seem to remember he did the robot or some such. That hung around for awhile actually during the in-game threads IIRC.

I know it has been around a season, maybe a little longer. So, I'd buy long, but not long long and certainly not long long long.

Good enough for me. Added. I think I recall that goal celebration.
