Good-bye Fran

Saturday 23rd October, 2004 -- The Captain retires after sixteen years playing for his beloved club. Legend Fran (35) admitted this will be his last season. “O Neno” (‘The Kid’) has put to an end rumours claiming he would be staying until 2006, year of the centenary of the club.

In an interview to newspaper ‘La Voz de Galicia’ Fran admitted he will retire on the 30th of June, when his contract expires. “There’re 99,99 per cent of possibilities I’ll retire at the end of this season”, he said. The captain goes on: “When I renewed two years ago I promised myself I’d enjoy football until the end of my career. This is what I’m doing this year. I prefer to retire now, while I still have the strength, rather than been kicked out of the club”.

But although Fran is leaving Depor, he still does not know if he will be leaving professional football for good. Fran says: “I don’t see myself playing anywhere in Europe, because I can’t picture myself playing against Depor. But I wouldn’t mind playing in an Arab country [namely Qatar] or in the United States. Anyway, we’ll see…”.

Good-bye Fran, thanks for the memories and making Depor, Super! The most interesting point he makes comes later in the article, about playing in Qatar or the United States. Is he possibly destined for MLS? Personally I hope he doesn't join the MLS (which I like), I don't want to see his legacy tarnished with a bad stink in MLS.

Fran will continue to play!!!! Just not in la Coruna or any part of Spain for that matter . Looks like he's seriously considering offers to play in Qatar and USA.

While I'd love to see him play in the US, I'm not sure how good he could do. Maybe he should just take the money in Qatar and live comfortably.
