Check it out, it makes a good read. http://www.soccernet.com/columns/2002/1015/20021015featball.html Good commentary and history.
He got the story wrong just like when he said in his previous article that Betis was founded in 1909. Prats was attacked by a Sevilla FC supporter not a Betico. I hate sports writers who don't get the basics or do their homework prior to writing their articles. Saludos y viva er beti manque alfonso y lopera! Pichi
He does live in the Basque country, San Sebastian, so he's probably not as in touch with Andalucian football. But he's always a good read.
Sorry, Malaga CF fan, but no excuses. Living in the north, or living in the south, if your going to write it as a professional sports writer make it correct or say otherwise. I have a few other problems with the article as well, which I explained in the Phil Ball thread on the main Spain board. Overall he's good, but I would rather have a writer who is a little more thorough in his research affecting the opionions of English reading fans.
QDog did you go to the derby? if so how was it from the stands? I finally got to see the match on Fox last Friday and would say that a 1-1 score was a good result for Sevilla, Betis outplayed them but as in past derby's they don't have that killer instinct. They should have sealed the game after Joaquins goal instead they left the door open for your Palanganas to tie the match thanks to Juanitos own goal. I didn't go, but I'm sure the atmosphere was great. I remember going the Cubs-Cardinals games when I was a kid. There was nothing better. I must also add Juanito had a good touch on his goal. The next day at work the Sevillistas decided he was definitely Sevilla's Man of the Match.
