Ives is reporting that we have agreed to send Gonzalez to Catolica for an "undisclosed" fee. Considering the story is coming from Ives, it's safe to be skeptical, but this is the first news to come out on this matter in a few days...

    So let me sum up:

Most of the other teams in MLS are actively bringing in new talent from South America. The Crew, always way ahead of the curve, are cleverly sending theirs back.

When you have Andy Iro everyone on defense is disposable.

"Look for the Crew to start out with Chad Marshall and Danny O'Rourke as central defense starters until Iro shows he's ready to take the job."

...Fcking idiots. I hope there's someone else lined up to come in.

Dude, everyone's forgetting our All-Star caliber central defender Ezra...

Our management team has to have a contingency for losing arguably one of the top three central defenders in the league. Right?

    Canales' fault.

He couldn't get that situation out of his head.

As far as I can tell the only reason Gonzalez is leaving is that he wanted to leave. As soon as I got a whiff that he wanted to leave I figured he was gone. I would prefer to support an organization that does not hold its players hostage. If Schelotto really wants to leave he should be allowed to leave, too.

In the long run I think the Crew will benefit.

When the stands are packed and the Crew are winning players might not be in such a hurry to leave. But the guy had never left Chile/Argentina. Didn't he leave his family in Argentina? How much fun do you think he was having here?

If the deal was only done so that Zurawski could be signed, it was probably worth it.

If Schelotto went back this year too, I agree the timing would be bad.

Signing Zurawski will be a moot point if you're giving up three goals per match.

We’ll be in the dubious position of needing a draft pick to be an MLS All-Star just to get back to square one....

If the funds they give us is enough to help fund the Zurawski transfer and get it done, then I can't fault the FO. However if by preseason we are minus Gonzo and all we have to show are some players we picked up in the MLS draft, then I am going to be downright pissed.

And to think that I decided to buy Marcos' game jersey from the Pioneer Cup b/c I was under the assumption that he was too important to be let go.

This is complete and utter bullshit. We just let our second best player walk out the door, and at this point I'm more than willing to bet that we're not going to get the Zurawski thing done until at least June, if ever. And no matter what McCullers says, I KNOW we didn't get anywhere near what he was worth from Catholica. I need to go kick a small dog or something.

Should be 2 separate issues. If the only way we buy Magic is to sell Marcos, then we need to find a different DP target.

We should have been looking for a veteran defender -- and by veteran I don't mean 'really old guy', but someone who could step in and contribute as a starter. Instead, our central defense choices will be injury-prone Chad Marshall, never a full-time defender Danny O'Rourke, unproven draftee Andy Iro, and old man Ezra. That, to me, makes us one good knock on Chad away from USL1-level defense.

And you know who should be in McCullers' office kicking and screaming right now? Hesmer. He's gonna feel like he just stepped off a boat onto Omaha Beach playing with that mess in front of him.

Out of curiosity, why do they never disclose information like this? Why can't the Crew announce it officially, or disclose the terms, or tell us if they are pursuing Zurawski.

All we ever get is a random quote from someone like Warzycha in the British tabloids. Never an official statement, never how much money a player cost. We still don't know what of our allocation money goes to pay Guillermo's salary. How is someone supposed to follow a team and cultivate interest if they can't ever even get a breath of what's happening.

I guess if you're an 8 year-old who's parents buy family four packs, then you don't care. That's their target, so no wonder the press releases are so lax.

You lost me right about there.

Will say, though, that it never ceases to amaze me just how little it takes for the Crew boards to self-impode in a writhing fit of apocalyptic doom.

I have never seen him play, but Jed Zayner is 23 and has been in camp for two years, he should be ready to go by now.

Schmid talked about playing O'Rourke at center back at the end of last season.

There were a ton of center backs in the draft. Brandon Owens might be a great pick. Scott Bolkan, Joe Donoho, Tim Jepson and Andre Sherard are still available. Still, the Crew should jump at the chance to take Balc, Reyerling, or Landers.

Some stuff from Red Card about Andy Herron...

Actually, for a goalkeeper, it is a lot more fun to play for a bad team.

Marcos was good defender for the Crew, but that did not prevent the Crew from throwing away several games in the final minutes. That problem is more troubling IMO. Iro can't be any slower than Marcos, we just have to hope that his reading of the game is near as good as Marcos' is.

I rather hold a player of his caliber hostage.

See there is this thing called a contract. You know what your signing for how many years. Your a f-ing soccer player, ohh boo hoo i'm unhappy. How the F**k could you possibly be unhappy. I would do a dance every morning if I played for Columbus.

Management is incompetent. He has to play if he signs a contract so why let him go. Hell, Sigi you need to win this year right?

    First Grabs
    Then Gonzo
Then Gaven (you wait-- our management could get pushed around by anyone to take a crap deal he will be at LA, NE, just like Catolica pushed us into this, they are a bunch of p****sies.)

Either Sigi is trying to eradicate everyone with a G(Hey how about you try to eradicate Garey instead) in their name from the team or he doesn't like talent. I bet you a million bucks that Ezra will be starting in defense next year.

I'm so f-in pissed, there goes my favorite player. There goes our defense. Way to go Crew.

Then I guess we shouldn't look to get Zurawski anytime soon because he has a contract, and no athletes ever leave a team before their contract is up.:)

Ahh it's different you know it, who gives a s*** about Celtic seriously.

I just don't like the whole idea of oh it's no problem we got adequate cover for an All Star caliber defender. We might but thinking like that is why you lose games. You want to keep talent in your side even if you can adequately cover.
