I would HATE, absolutely HATE to see Gomez go, but I think I could live with the above trade. I still think Colaluca can be an impact player in this league. Also, I was very impressed with Clark last year.

    1. Cooke
    2. Clark
    3. Colaluca

Not straight up for Gomez, of course. Any two of the above would be fine.

Mr. Goff chimes in with a late night comment, stating, "Gomez to Rapids rumor originated with my comment last week that Colorado was the only team I knew of that had expressed interest in trading for Christian and giving him a bigger contract than what DCU was offering. Beyond that, there is no news."

I'd trade him straight up for Cooke. I'd think we'd have to, as you're talking about a player not actually under contract.

But look at it this way. If you traded Gomez for Cooke, you've got a massive upgrade in wide service, a plausible center mid in Fred, and 100k of extra cap space to help address any other needs.

I dunno. Where would the FO have a spare Centrocampista on hold? Surely any player worth their salary would not be on hold to see what CG and DCU were going to do.

There was rumor of DCU interest in Marcelo Gallardo earlier in the off-season and there is again recent rumor of him coming to MLS - since he is out of contract at PSG, he may be an option of Gomez departs.

Or plan B could be a new wide midfielder, allowing Fred to move inside.

Time for Gomez to shit or get off the pot.

I'd love to see gallardo in DC Uniform, at just turning 32 years old, Jan. 18 he's not too old and would work well with our recent squad and if all the rumored transfer's go through, we could potentially be one of the best DC Teams in the last 12 years of this league.

I hope its our team that is in negotiations with Gallardo, San Lorenzo was looking to reinforce their team for the Copa Libertadores with him as their number ten to "string" together plays for them in the middle, i feel if he's good enough for them then he is damn good enough for us.

Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids?

We haven't considered Gomez' outlook on this yet. He has his family here, I don't see him wanting to uproot them and go all the way out to Colorado (whose main Argentinian-roots player, Mastroeni, is himself on the trade block), where he knows he'd be on a worse team than we'll ever be this year and in a situation that will not improve in his lifetime. He's in a tough spot, unless he can get assurances of not being traded by DC.

I think he'll start the season as our playmaker but will end it as a sub, just like Moreno. It'd be awesome for DC to trade him for Cooke or Ballouchy, but for Gomez I would not want to be traded to a team with no prospects of the postseason. If this rumor has substance and if Gomez knows it, he may not want to sign with DC then.

This would be a damn good lineup, with Niell to come in when moreno's gassed, and our experienced south american backline i feel we'd be ready to do damage with this lineup internationally not just in our domestic league.

Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids?

I am a huge fan of Christian. I love that he made a committment to playing his very best in MLS. Something that we don't know any incoming players will do (although Argentines have a reputation for effort and heart in general). Regardless, this ambiguity and all of these rumors aren't what I enjoy about the game. I will be thrilled when the transfer window has finally closed. It will be nice to get a definitive message of substance sometime soon.

One note: If the rumors are true, then props to DC for keeping a solid plan B in place in regard to Christian.

Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids?

if gomez oes end up in colorado (which im sure he would prefer to the middle east) then we'dend up with (hopefully) one of their wingers in Cooke or clark. I would think that would displace either Fred or Benny at the wing spot. Or if Mastroeni is in the deal, Simms gets bumped.

    Either way, very strong lineup

i made it through 4 minutes of that highlight video and had to stop as i was getting too excited. i fear that the argentine press are just assuming that dc is the club because of the veron deal.

wikipedia says that he signed for 2 years and the goal.com article says he had a "torrid" time at PSG. anybody know what happened over there?

oh, and wikipedia says his nickname is "the doll" due to his small size. this would go nicely with niell, which the blog dcumd says has the nickname "the dwarf."

fred has to be smiling, if these transfers go through; he is going to look huge.

With his torrid time at PSG:
Aparrently when he was with PSG he had some hard times and some fights with Le Guen for gaining playing time in the starting 11, because apparently he and Pauleta were being benched for some of the younger reserve players, to " Inject some new blood into sleepy PSG and to let the youth have some chance."

I saw Gallardo play when living in Nice, he played for Monaco, and the guy was awesome. Now, he was dropping passes to Trezuget so that would make just about any center mid look good. He was definitely a two-way midfielder in his days back then. Monaco won their last French Championship back then. I rushed the field with about 13K other fans that day. Despite the small numbers Monaco has some great fans. ...Sigh...:)

Wouldn't it be funny if we're the club the Spanish press knows like the Gals are the only club the overseas English press knows b/c of Becks?
