Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread After day 1: Golden Boot 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-Tejada (PAN)
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread Mods, please put an [R] on this thread. ... After day 2: Golden Boot 2-Donovan (USA) 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-Tejada (PAN) 1-Soto (CR) 1-More (CUB) 1-Dempsey (USA) 1-Beasley (USA)
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread After day 3: Golden Boot 3-Ruiz (GUA) 2-Donovan (USA) 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-Tejada (PAN) 1-Soto (CR) 1-More (CUB) 1-Dempsey (USA) 1-Beasley (USA) 1-Evans (RSA) 1-Van Heerden (RSA) 1-Rodriguez (MEX) 1-Shelton (JAM) 1-Fuller (JAM) 1-Williams (JAM) 1-Hue (JAM) So the first set of games is complete. As for a Best XI so far, Donovan and Ruiz definitely belong on there, as well as Panama's goalkeeper. Birchall for Trinidad. Jamaica and South Africa both played very well tonight. Didn't watch closely enough to single out individual players though.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread [R] Execlent thread, if ruiz gets as many oppurtunties he might set a new tournment record for goal, is he the first to get a hatrick in this tournement history? Yeah landon is the beast deserves to be on bestXI,he is my favorite player from us jus execlent at running at defenders, want to see more out of dempsey , panama gk right now is bestXI but well see when they play honduras what happens..
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread [R] I don't think anyone can beat Zague in 1993, or Mexico's entire tournament for that matter: Mexico 9-0 Martinique Mexico 1-1 Costa Rica Mexico 8-0 Canada Mexico 6-1 Jamaica Mexico 4-0 United States Zague had scored in every game, includine 7 against Martinque and 2 against Canada.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread Golden Boot 3-Ruiz (GUA) 3-Donovan (USA) 2-Soto (CR) 2-Brenes (CR) 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-Tejada (PAN) 1-More (CUB) 1-Dempsey (USA) 1-Beasley (USA) 1-Evans (RSA) 1-Van Heerden (RSA) 1-Rodriguez (MEX) 1-Shelton (JAM) 1-Fuller (JAM) 1-Williams (JAM) 1-Hue (JAM) 1-Galindo (CUB) 1-own goal I think DaMarcus Beasley has three assists in two games so far.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread Golden Boot 3-Ruiz (GUA) 3-Donovan (USA) 3-Tejada (PAN) 2-Soto (CR) 2-Brenes (CR) 2-Borgetti (MEX) 2-Hue (JAM) 2-Velazquez (HON) 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-More (CUB) 1-Dempsey (USA) 1-Beasley (USA) 1-Evans (RSA) 1-Van Heerden (RSA) 1-Rodriguez (MEX) 1-Shelton (JAM) 1-Fuller (JAM) 1-Williams (JAM) 1-Galindo (CUB) 1-Galindo (MEX) 1-Bravo (MEX) 1-Raselemane (RSA) 1-Ndela (RSA) 1-Stewart (JAM) 1-Nomvete (RSA) 1-Bennett (JAM) 1-Moreno (COL) 1-Andrews (TRI) 1-Glen (TRI) 1-own goal Two rounds complete. So far, we've had 42 goals in 12 games, for an average of 3.5 a game.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread [R] frank yalop winning manger anything in the next two yrs, is like saying cuba will have euro playing players by next yr, not gonna Happen plus Canada got an easier group, they would of quailfied if the were in group A, to bad
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread Golden Boot 3-Ruiz (GUA) 3-Donovan (USA) 3-Tejada (PAN) 2-Soto (CR) 2-Brenes (CR) 2-Borgetti (MEX) 2-Hue (JAM) 2-Velazquez (HON) 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-More (CUB) 1-Dempsey (USA) 1-Beasley (USA) 1-Evans (RSA) 1-Van Heerden (RSA) 1-Rodriguez (MEX) 1-Shelton (JAM) 1-Fuller (JAM) 1-Williams (JAM) 1-Galindo (CUB) 1-Galindo (MEX) 1-Bravo (MEX) 1-Raselemane (RSA) 1-Ndela (RSA) 1-Stewart (JAM) 1-Nomvete (RSA) 1-Bennett (JAM) 1-Moreno (COL) 1-Andrews (TRI) 1-Glen (TRI) 1-Aguilar (COL) 1-Hurtado (COL) 1-Caballero (HON) 1-Gerba (CAN) 1-Hutchinson (CAN) 1-Cervantes (CUB) 1-own goal Two first round games left. Players in bold are from teams that are (officially) eliminated.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread Golden Boot 3-Ruiz (GUA) 3-Donovan (USA) 3-Tejada (PAN) 2-Soto (CR) 2-Brenes (CR) 2-Borgetti (MEX) 2-Hue (JAM) 2-Velazquez (HON) 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-More (CUB) 1-Dempsey (USA) 1-Beasley (USA) 1-Evans (RSA) 1-Van Heerden (RSA) 1-Rodriguez (MEX) 1-Shelton (JAM) 1-Fuller (JAM) 1-Williams (JAM) 1-Galindo (CUB) 1-Galindo (MEX) 1-Bravo (MEX) 1-Raselemane (RSA) 1-Ndela (RSA) 1-Stewart (JAM) 1-Nomvete (RSA) 1-Bennett (JAM) 1-Moreno (COL) 1-Andrews (TRI) 1-Glen (TRI) 1-Aguilar (COL) 1-Hurtado (COL) 1-Caballero (HON) 1-Gerba (CAN) 1-Hutchinson (CAN) 1-Cervantes (CUB) 1-Romero (GUA) 1-Nkosi (RSA) 1-Medina (MEX) 1-own goal Borgetti will miss the QF against Colombia due to yellow cards, so he looks unlikely to win the Golden Boot. Panama probably will have a tough time with South Africa, but Tejada has a good chance. Landon looks like the likely winner though. He gets to play Jamaica and should score against them.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread Golden Boot 3-Ruiz (GUA) 3-Donovan (USA) 3-Tejada (PAN) 3-Velazquez (HON) 3-Beasley (USA) 2-Soto (CR) 2-Brenes (CR) 2-Borgetti (MEX) 2-Hue (JAM) 2-Fuller (JAM) 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-More (CUB) 1-Dempsey (USA) 1-Evans (RSA) 1-Van Heerden (RSA) 1-Rodriguez (MEX) 1-Shelton (JAM) 1-Williams (JAM) 1-Galindo (CUB) 1-Galindo (MEX) 1-Bravo (MEX) 1-Raselemane (RSA) 1-Ndela (RSA) 1-Stewart (JAM) 1-Nomvete (RSA) 1-Bennett (JAM) 1-Moreno (COL) 1-Andrews (TRI) 1-Glen (TRI) 1-Aguilar (COL) 1-Hurtado (COL) 1-Caballero (HON) 1-Gerba (CAN) 1-Hutchinson (CAN) 1-Cervantes (CUB) 1-Romero (GUA) 1-Nkosi (RSA) 1-Medina (MEX) 1-Turcios (HON) 1-Nunez (HON) 1-Bolanos (CR) 1-Ruiz (CR) 1-Wolff (USA) 1-own goal Landon missed the penalty, or else he would be in the lead by himself.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread Golden Boot 3-Ruiz (GUA) 3-Donovan (USA) 3-Tejada (PAN) 3-Velazquez (HON) 3-Beasley (USA) 2-Soto (CR) 2-Brenes (CR) 2-Borgetti (MEX) 2-Hue (JAM) 2-Fuller (JAM) 2-Aguilar (COL) 2-Ndela (RSA) 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-More (CUB) 1-Dempsey (USA) 1-Evans (RSA) 1-Van Heerden (RSA) 1-Rodriguez (MEX) 1-Shelton (JAM) 1-Williams (JAM) 1-Galindo (CUB) 1-Galindo (MEX) 1-Bravo (MEX) 1-Raselemane (RSA) 1-Stewart (JAM) 1-Nomvete (RSA) 1-Bennett (JAM) 1-Moreno (COL) 1-Andrews (TRI) 1-Glen (TRI) 1-Hurtado (COL) 1-Caballero (HON) 1-Gerba (CAN) 1-Hutchinson (CAN) 1-Cervantes (CUB) 1-Romero (GUA) 1-Nkosi (RSA) 1-Medina (MEX) 1-Turcios (HON) 1-Nunez (HON) 1-Bolanos (CR) 1-Ruiz (CR) 1-Wolff (USA) 1-Castrillon (COL) 1-Pineda (MEX) 1-Jo. Dely Valdes (PAN) 1-own goal The USA now looks like the clear favorites, and either Donovan or Beasley should win the Golden Boot. Tejada also has a good chance, although Panama is probably the underdog against Colombia. It will be interesting to see if any player can get more than 4 goals, which was only done in 1993. 65 goals in 22 games, for an average of 2.95 per game.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread Golden Boot 3-Ruiz (GUA) 3-Donovan (USA) 3-Tejada (PAN) 3-Velazquez (HON) 3-Beasley (USA) 2-Soto (CR) 2-Brenes (CR) 2-Borgetti (MEX) 2-Hue (JAM) 2-Fuller (JAM) 2-Aguilar (COL) 2-Nldela (RSA) 2-Jo. Dely Valdes (PAN) 2-Phillips (PAN) 2-Patino (COL) 1-Birchall (TRI) 1-Figueroa (HON) 1-More (CUB) 1-Dempsey (USA) 1-Evans (RSA) 1-Van Heerden (RSA) 1-Rodriguez (MEX) 1-Shelton (JAM) 1-Williams (JAM) 1-Galindo (CUB) 1-Galindo (MEX) 1-Bravo (MEX) 1-Raselemane (RSA) 1-Stewart (JAM) 1-Nomvete (RSA) 1-Bennett (JAM) 1-Moreno (COL) 1-Andrews (TRI) 1-Glen (TRI) 1-Hurtado (COL) 1-Caballero (HON) 1-Gerba (CAN) 1-Hutchinson (CAN) 1-Cervantes (CUB) 1-Romero (GUA) 1-Nkosi (RSA) 1-Medina (MEX) 1-Turcios (HON) 1-Nunez (HON) 1-Bolanos (CR) 1-Ruiz (CR) 1-Wolff (USA) 1-Castrillon (COL) 1-Pineda (MEX) 1-Guerrero (HON) 1-O'Brien (USA) 1-Onyewu (USA) 1-own goal (changed so that the players in bold are the guys left) 73 goals in 24 games, for an average of 3.04 per game. It's been an exciting tournament. It looks like Donovan or Beasley should claim the Golden Boot, as the USA should have an easier time with Panama than with Honduras. Although, Tejada has played very well and could snatch it. He definitely deserves to be in the best 11, maybe even player of the tournament.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread [R] I haven't seen EVERY game, but my goalkeeper of the tournament (and maybe even player) has been Panama goalie Jaime Penedo (eventhough Keller saved the U.S. many times). Any others thoughts?
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread [R] question.. what if no one surpasses the 3 goals who gets the golden boot? Ruiz for doing it in less games?? or does it go to the winning team?
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread [R] I know for the U20 championship, what they do is count assists as the tiebreaker. That's why Eddie Johnson won the Golden Boot for the 2003 version, and I believe they might be doing that for the World Cup as well. But if that's not the case, then they would all share it.

Landon Donovan is the only player to return from the 2003 Best XI; this is his third in a row including 2002. Actually, none of the other ten has previously made a Gold Cup Best XI, which they started awarding in 1998. I think the player of the tournament will have to be Beasley, Donovan or Tejada.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread [R] Beasley has won the Golden Boot via this tiebreaker, as he had four assists to go along with his three goals. Donovan, Tejada, Velaquez and Ruiz all were also tied with three. Interesting that no one could score more than three. Penedo won for Best Goalkeeper, and Tejada for MVP. Didn't see who won the Fair Play award.
Re: Golden Boot/Awards thread [R] I'll add the costa rican christian bolanos to the best XI, he was our best player.
