    After day 3:

    Golden Boot

    3-Ruiz (GUA)
    2-Donovan (USA)
    1-Birchall (TRI)
    1-Figueroa (HON)
    1-Tejada (PAN)
    1-Soto (CR)
    1-More (CUB)
    1-Dempsey (USA)
    1-Beasley (USA)
    1-Evans (RSA)
    1-Van Heerden (RSA)
    1-Rodriguez (MEX)
    1-Shelton (JAM)
    1-Fuller (JAM)
    1-Williams (JAM)
    1-Hue (JAM)

So the first set of games is complete. As for a Best XI so far, Donovan and Ruiz definitely belong on there, as well as Panama's goalkeeper. Birchall for Trinidad. Jamaica and South Africa both played very well tonight. Didn't watch closely enough to single out individual players though.

I don't think anyone can beat Zague in 1993, or Mexico's entire tournament for that matter:

    Mexico 9-0 Martinique
    Mexico 1-1 Costa Rica
    Mexico 8-0 Canada
    Mexico 6-1 Jamaica
    Mexico 4-0 United States

Zague had scored in every game, includine 7 against Martinque and 2 against Canada.

Borgetti will miss the QF against Colombia due to yellow cards, so he looks unlikely to win the Golden Boot. Panama probably will have a tough time with South Africa, but Tejada has a good chance. Landon looks like the likely winner though. He gets to play Jamaica and should score against them.

The USA now looks like the clear favorites, and either Donovan or Beasley should win the Golden Boot. Tejada also has a good chance, although Panama is probably the underdog against Colombia. It will be interesting to see if any player can get more than 4 goals, which was only done in 1993.

65 goals in 22 games, for an average of 2.95 per game.

(changed so that the players in bold are the guys left)

73 goals in 24 games, for an average of 3.04 per game. It's been an exciting tournament. It looks like Donovan or Beasley should claim the Golden Boot, as the USA should have an easier time with Panama than with Honduras. Although, Tejada has played very well and could snatch it. He definitely deserves to be in the best 11, maybe even player of the tournament.

I haven't seen EVERY game, but my goalkeeper of the tournament (and maybe even player) has been Panama goalie Jaime Penedo (eventhough Keller saved the U.S. many times).

    Any others thoughts?

I know for the U20 championship, what they do is count assists as the tiebreaker. That's why Eddie Johnson won the Golden Boot for the 2003 version, and I believe they might be doing that for the World Cup as well. But if that's not the case, then they would all share it.

I'm surprised no South Africans made the Best XI. Landon Donovan is the only player to return from the 2003 Best XI; this is his third in a row including 2002. Actually, none of the other ten has previously made a Gold Cup Best XI, which they started awarding in 1998.

I think the player of the tournament will have to be Beasley, Donovan or Tejada.

Beasley has won the Golden Boot via this tiebreaker, as he had four assists to go along with his three goals. Donovan, Tejada, Velaquez and Ruiz all were also tied with three. Interesting that no one could score more than three.

Penedo won for Best Goalkeeper, and Tejada for MVP.

Didn't see who won the Fair Play award.
