this really sucks I had already made plans to travel to DC guess this means my Philly trip to see ManUre is back on
Mexican Fed must have decided that their cut in the tourney wasn't good enough--or they're scared that they're going to lose and they want to increase their chances of winning by playing in the altitude and the smog of Mexico City. If two of Brazil, USA and Colombia end up in different groups than the Mexicans, you know this is the case because those teams will have to travel to Mexico City without being able to aclimate(sic) to the altitude. Just imagine this tournament in winter, and the U.S. playing all their matches in Crew stadium, while the Mexicans, Colombians and Brazilians had to play in warm climates. Then for the final, those teams had to come play against the U.S. in Crew stadium. All of this tells me that Mexico is itching to win the Gold Cup back and has been offended by our recent inroads into their dominance.
I would imagine it is security related and mostly related to the fact that they believe security resources in DC will be taxed to the fullest for the next year and they did not want to worry about more than they have to already. Meaning that they did not feel that it could not be made secure but at a cost of resources and personal they don't want to deal with now and then.
Actually it all has to do with Money. A While back FIFA asked Mexico to help the TFC out by taking the Regions tourneys more serious. That said if the Tricolores are going to bring their best possible squad why share the winnings of sold out stadiums with the USSF, have the Final at Home and just give the TFC their Cut... BTW i quoted you because the Costa Ricans at the Univision forum feel the same way. You fellas should get together and decide whos Mexicos main rival .
Yeah, 100,000 x avg. ticket price in dollars? If Mexico doesn't make the final, then what do they do? Or have they already bought off the refs a la South Korea?
Jesus HAHA IF you people ant the Gold Cup to get more exposure and have more team taking it serious... how about rotating it..
This was the TFC's idea not Mexicos (FMF) Besides i heard that our good friends at Nike will presure the CBF so that Brazil brings their best possible team and not the U-23. If the TFC wants to bring prestige to the Gold Cup then what better way than a Mex/Bra final at the Azteca.
I would assume that this is just about as last minute as the could get away with. It is still early enough for many to change their travel plans.
What? Nike pressuring the CBF to bring their best players? Pues ya veremos si eso pasa o no.(We'll see if that happens or not) Ustedes lo saben bien que todo esto le da la ventaja a Mexico.(You all know very well that this gives the advantage to Mexico)
Agree, still early enough to prepare. If the FMF can prepare a WC in 3 year time experiencing a minor setback (earthquake 85), a Gold Cup is no problem at all for them. Afterall, Mexico said that they only needed a couple days to prepare for the Copa America in 2001. CONMEBOL wasnt sure if they wanted to host the Cup in Colombia due to security issues. I would like to see a Gold Cup in Central America, Canda, and the islands. I can see it in Canada and central America, but the islands just dont have stadiums large enough.
The Concacaf website indicates one of the semi's is in Miami, the other is in Mexico. If I've got this correct, this means that whoever is in Miami for the whole tourney bar the final will have about 2 days to get acclimatized to the altitude & air quality of Azteca, to play against a team that will be either used to it (ie. Mexico) or better adjusted to it (ie. played at least the other semi-final there). The 3rd place match is also to be in Miami, AFAIR, which is strange.
but see the problem is...mexico won't be there... once again their team will fall flat, and i wont shed a tear.
Re: Re: Re: Gold Cup Moved to Mexico City / Miami / Foxboro - OFFICIAL you dont have to be miss cleo to know the fortunes of the mexican national team...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Gold Cup Moved to Mexico City / Miami / Foxboro - OFFICIAL your right Mexico 3 Brazil 0 -Gold Cup Final
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Gold Cup Moved to Mexico City / Miami / Foxboro - OFFICIAL ha, ha, ha....i almost fell out of my chair. even the studious VS wouldnt predict something that bold.
A final in Mexico City? You can't beat that. Besides, now is the best time to steal a win at Azteca. With a new coach, an aging star (Blanco), a new system, and the fact that they can't seem to get one ball past an opposing keeper, the odds of winning in Azteca are better. I believe Marquez won't be available fror 3 games right? Now's a good time to beat Mexico in Azteca
Azteca in the middle of the summer? That is the worst possible time to play there. I can understand the security concerns, but don't many fields in Latin America have moats and barbed wire fences around the pitch? I know, its a different type of security, but still this has to boil down to money.
Given the propensity for each and every edition of the Gold Cup to be held at least partially - and usually completely - in the US, I would have thought the last person to be in a position to moan about 'advantage' would be a US fan.
