http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news;_y...wN0aA--?slug=ap-concacaf-us&prov=ap&type=lgns and http://www.concacaf.com/view_article.asp?id=2780 Looks like SUM is going to be doing the marketing for this one.
Looks like Miami and California would be very likely venues. They've been hosts several times already.
That'd be somewhat interesting, considering the games are usually played in in largely hispanic/ethnically populated cities. But would be a nice change of pace, do you have a source for that?
True, although they had a weather advantage when it was played in Jan/Feb. Not so with a July Gold Cup -- hence the US group games in Foxborough last summer. Miami/LA still have some ethnic-makeup advantages, depending on who is in which group, but weather-wise just about anywhere would be good.
Univision has acquired the TV rights to the 2005 and 2007 Gold Cups. All games will be shown live. It's not clear if they will all be on the Univision network or if some games will be on Galavision and/or Telefutura. http://www.concacaf.com/view_article.asp?id=2793
I'd imagine that all 3 channels would be used. I was hoping for news on english coverage...I suppose it's a matter of time (since SUM is involved) before FSW gets the English rights in some way as ESPN wouldn't bother with this and GOL TV is out of the picture with Spanish rights covered.
If that's the case, would Japan be one of the two guest teams? They backed out from a game last year so maybe they would be willing to come over this time.
I doubt the U$$F would get any input, but if so, I'd say screw 'em for backing out of the match last year.
The field is too narrow for international matches. It's a good 4-5 yards narrower than the field at the old Mile High. Of course, I doubt that it will matter to those in charge. We always half-ass things in this country.
