Not a great start but still 2-2 on aggregate.

Horrendous defending off the corner, down 2-0.

    Quel desastre!

Seriously the worst half of football we’ve played all season. They completely owned us. Well deserved scoreline right now.

45 mins left to define our season. Let’s see what Slegers can come up with!

Sloppy penalty to give up when the Lyon player would have put it out, but bad defending and keeping on the corner.

I guess the positive is they can't play any worse.

Little is having another surprising shocker of a game. I think she may not make it 90.

Edit: Well Pelova does come into MF at 69' but *not* for LIttle. Caldentey comes off. Wow. Pelova who I don't really rate instantly picks up a yellow. Nice.

75' Russo fights for a final touch! 2-1! 3-3 AGG.

    COYG!!!!

Edit: Credit for Slegers' subs, including Holmberg in for Smith. The Swede's good cross was as important as the tough finish. Which they ended up giving as an OG, a bit harsh?

86' 3-1 Lyon (4-3 AGG) initially ruled offside but then overturned with VAR. Class goal by Brand, More loose defending by us, this time by Kelly I think.

Fair result. We just weren't really at the races today. Kinda shockingly I'd say. But credit to Lyon, who used their the last week to prepare really well for this. Mentally and strategically.

So Arsenal teams in for a CL Final? Then there was one.

Yesterday I had a kinda crazy day in the hospital (no not for me) so I kinda missed a consequential result...

    BHA 1-1 AWFC

From the mini highlights I watched it looks like we didn't really do enough to win, although we might have a shout for a PK that wasn't given. In any case, these 2 points dropped allowed Citeh to clinch the title.

We still sit 3rd and with 2 games in hand, but we need to not drop any more points, otherwise Yanited might nab our UWCL spot.

Next up, a trip to Villa tomorrow 7am. That's gonna be hard to get up for, even for me.

    FT AVFC 0 - 3 AWFC

After an anemic midweek performance, we bounce back with an easy peasy, professional win.

    Shots: 1(1) - 28(11)
    xG: 0.15 - 3.78
    Corners: 0 - 10

Securing UWCL competition for next season.

If not for a poor start to this season, what could have been?

Not surprisingly but still sadly, the club is parting company with Beth Mead today:
    https://www.arsenal.com/news/beth-mead-leave-club-end-season

Edit: Beth is almost certainly going to Man City, which will be extra tough for Gooners, but it will mean she can finally live with her sweetie again full-time.

They also announced Victoria Pelova & Laia Codina are also going. Also no surprises there. And there will probably be others... it's gonna be a bit of a rebuild this summer it seems.

Why do we always have to bring up women’s relationships when we talk about their professional lives but rarely do so with men?

OK, but it’s an important factor here methinks. And honestly, if it were two male players in a similar relationship, separated by hundreds of miles because they play on different clubs, I can’t see why I wouldn’t also bring it up as relevant. However that’s not likely to happen anytime soon, because gay players in the men’s game are still largely closeted, while in the women’s game they are largely open and normalized.

Edit: what I neglected to also mention is that in the women’s game, for whatever reason, relationships between players is fairly common (sometimes even within the same team! as Beth was an example of), whereas in the men’s game that seems practically nonexistent.

I get what you're saying. Personal lives should not be factored in football ideally, but to support North Bank, it weirdly has an effect on teams and transfers. As he mentioned, dating within themselves brings up this narrative, which is human- you may want to go or not to to a place depending on how that relationship or complications are. I've seen in women's football, some people refuse to join certain clubs because of issues with a player/former lover conflict. Either an ex is there or someone involved in a love triangle. This isn't factored in male top leagues as they date outside their peers/rival teams.

I hope I wrote my thoughts above in a respectable way.

    In other news...

The gals host EFC today 2pm ET on Espn+

Not a lot riding on this game. We've already clinched 3rd place and UWCL for next season. However, we could still pip CFC for 2nd place would be a bit of a moral victory.

I'll try to keep an eye on this game at the same time as the 3pm ET Man Shitty match.

Just realized that this is Beth Mead's last game. That would explain why she wanted to announce her departure this week and why she really really looks like scoring! (just hit the bar) Though still 0-0

p.s. I'll miss Beth. Still remember when she signed as a youngster like 10 years ago.

    FT AWFC 1-0 EFC

We were kinda stuttering to the finish line of this season. Frustrated tonite by inability to hit the net instead of the woodwork. Then our Swedish super sub steps up and bags the winner at 94'. (luckily no VAR in WSL or else they might've found offside and/or foul on the GK)

As a result we take sole ownership of 2nd place, by 2 pts over CFC. And realistically it's ours as long as we don't lose our final game. (Our GD is superior)

    Well done!

Katie McCabe is the latest to be cut loose... not completely surprisingly but it seemed in the balance. She didn't do a video but instead wrote a piece on the website. Interesting how she singled out Joe M for praise but no mention of Renee. I guess that shouldn't be too surprising when the perception is that the latter didn't rate the player enough to renew their contract.

So this summer's definitely gonna be a bit of a rebuild. And Katie's shoes are gonna be pretty big to fill, not least because of her versatility. It was said that at Arsenal she played every outfield position there is. She'll be missed. Let's hope we can move forward and upward without her!

Gals play the last game of the season in 10 mins @liverpool. The only jeopardy in this one is 2nd place on the line and avoiding UWCL qualifiers.

Didn’t watch 2T as closely as 1T. Seems we took our foot off the gas a bit.

But overall, we finished the season quite strongly.

Gotta go! Hittin the road now.

    Ps. Bye bye Katie

Just watchin Barca march to another UWCL trophy. They were too much for Lyon and probably woulda been too much for us too.

Kept an eye in Ona Batlle who’s good and strongly rumored to sign with us. As a McCabe replacement? Who can also play both sides like Katie could.
