I saw something that said ARS 0.64-0.98 BAR. and that's about how it felt to me... I might have had higher overall values, but I still thought Barca edged it. Though we we no slouches. We created many good chances. And of course the ultimate differentiator was that we buried one of ours.
That's true. The women's bench this year has been generally impressive. Where the men's has not always been. Respective injuries this season is a differentiator, but it seems like when you compare the 2 squads, with the women's team there's not as big a drop-off from our starters to our subs, as there is with the men. But we should be careful comparing the two teams. Some people might be a little sensitive about that.
I'm rewatching the game from about 70' on. I know I singled out Leah Williamson in realtime, and I believe she might've received POTM, well deserved. But I have to say that Stina Blackstenius in a much shorter amount of time was perhaps similarly important. She came on with tons of energy and urgency. Immediately creating lots of danger. I haven't finished rewatching but other than the goal, I can think of 2 or 3 other big efforts by her. She has been a consummate pro, accepting the role she's been asked to play which has generally been off the bench. Thank you Stina!! https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rBtZVezYdqQ
Watching the post-game coverage, and had to giggle at several interviews (Renee, Stina, etc) where they couldn't understand Toni Duggan's thick Scouser accent so Lianne Sanderson had to translate for them! And that's saying something because Lianne's accent itself s pretty strong cockney!
Incredible win, and I knew we were going to do it I could just feel it in my bones. The Renée Slegers appointment is looking like an absolute master stroke and can't wait to see what she does with a full preseason under her. Really think after this amazing achievement she can take Arsenal to a league win next season.
So very happy for the ladies. I know all involved with the program must have felt so frustrated at seeing Chelsea swoop in and become the main power domestically, so it's a delight that the lady Gunners got some fruits for their labor. Especially after the turmoil with the coaching change and the early doomsaying after losing Meidema. To settle in after that, still finish second in the league and to claim the throne in Europe is just a marvelous achievement. Well done, ladies. Well done indeed. Also does the overall women's game some good to add more variety to the brands sharing the spotlight. Side note: I was, in fact, hiking that day, as fate would have it. Logged 6 miles looping a local reservoir that finished just as the second half was starting. Happy it ended with such a rousing performance, and it makes the brand's record during such jaunts 14-3-4. Hopefully my body can handle more in the future!
Thanks for reminding me to check it out. Amazing images & videos on Arsenal.com. Wish I was there! A few of my favorites... This woman deserves much of the credit. She's so controlled and reserved but you can tell from the video of her today that she's been partying and screaming! And this one put in a captain's shift Saturday, even if she wasn't technically captain on the day. And check out the crowds! (doesn't hurt that it's a bank holiday there) MUCH LOVE FOR ALL THE GALS!
Nice words. Nice to see you back around more of late. And thanks for the hike assist. Maybe I'll join you for one of those hikes some day. (More challenging for me though, since I do a credible job of watching every game live, men & women)
And 2 more photos that really deserve a post. The 2 European Cup winning scorers (2007 & 2025) got together today, but also on the pitch in Lisbon after the victory. Blackstenius & Scott... two really lovely ladies who basically delivered us history.
The buzz is still fresh Here's something I've heard Leah Williamson say a few times in the last few days and it's my favorite quote from a nice long interview she did with Tim Stillman yesterday: "I don’t play football to make other people unhappy, I play to make people happy and I care about my people. And anybody that’s Arsenal – red and white – is going to have a summer to remember now and it’s for that." https://arseblog.news/2025/05/this-...-are-leah-williamson-speaks-to-arseblog-news/
The Arsenal Women will play all of their league matches at the Grove next season. Might have to time a trip to see the boys midweek and the girls at the weekend or vice versa.
