I hope you are right but I’m skeptical. There’s a reason why FIFA was dying to come back to the U.S. It’s where the money is. I can see a scenario where they mandate that a small tier of “affordable” tickets be available high up in the stadiums so FIFA can claim they have made tickets available to the regular folks, and then charge exponentially more for the 300- or 200- or 100-sections. I can see SeatGeek or Ticketmaster willing to offer a sweet deal for FIFA that they will not turn down because the finances can work if they can jack up prices substantially since demand will be probably the highest ever for a World Cup, even with 48 teams. And don’t forget the US domestic sponsors. They’ll have the leverage to want “presales” and demand increased seat allocations. I mean Qatar was already the most lucrative WC ever for FIFA. Imagine the prospects in the US. This is all speculation of course. Either way I dread the World Cup coming to the U.S. Even if FIFA keeps it in house, trying to get a tix for an Argentina or another high profile team is going to be absolutely crazy.
It won't matter what deal SG or TM offer, it will not be as lucrative for FIFA as the normal scenario for them which is they do it themselves. The only reason FIFA would outsource standard tickets is they don't think they can handle it. And for all FIFA's faults, they have a good system that doesn't crash for buying tickets. I would be stunned if presales are a thing. They never have been and those types of things exist all over the world. Also presales are something that companies do on the fan's behalf. It would be may more likely that those sponsors just ask FIFA for extra ticket allocations for their own use... something I totally expect. FIFA keeping everything in house is the easiest way for FIFA to maximize profits. Also with Messi gone, I don't expect Argentina to be the pull that it currently is. That's not to say tey won't be in demand, but they will fall back to the same level as a Brazil or France game is.
What a fantastic tournament this turned out to be! Logging in after ages and great to see this thread still going strong.
I dont see how Messi doesnt play and defend his title. I know he said he wont play. But he also said he quit the National Team before. There's no way he watches on TV.
Seat licenses wont mean anything for the World Cup, just like they don't for Super Bowl. They may give a token amount of seats away in a lottery for PSL holders, but not a significant amount. The only seat holders that may be guaranteed some tickets will be suite holders, even then they wont get their full allotment.
Can just echo @Dragonhorse and the others by saying that it would be awesome to have you and your skills back for 2026. Last WC was a blast and your generosity @herewegoagain was a big part of it - hope I can get a chance to return the favor. PS: loving to see this thread coming back to life.
Sounds like FIFA is in a dispute with some Azteca box holders about who gets to use their boxes in 2026. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/box-owners-mexico-iconic-azteca-110354306.html
Same. Got nothing with 3 applications.. I really wanted to go for this one. The Bernabéu will hold a screening though, ticket costs €10. Went there for the 2022 Final.
I’ve read on here snippets on how the ticketing resale system works in the US and whether it will be used for the WC. So how does it actually work? Say I had a nose bleed seat for a 49ers v Cowboys regular season game. How much would the original price compared to the resale price be. Are dodgy practices etc rife? I follow American sports from afar, will watch World Series, Super Bowl etc if time allows. The FIFA resale platform worked really good for Qatar. No rip off prices and plenty of tickets available especially on gameday. Would love a similar system at next World Cup. Just as an example here in Australia, Taylor Swift toured in Feb. It was hysteria of the highest order. Tickets sold out in minutes. She played 3 shows here in Melbourne, 98k each night. My youngest daughter initially managed a VIP ticket for $800. Her pissed off older sister missed out initially until she got lucky with an unannounced late release 2 days before the last concert which I had got wind of and immediately called her. Cost $750. Was supposed to be catA restricted view but was excellent. The official Ticketmaster resale platform was selling tickets in dribs and drabs at COST PRICE, no rip off mark ups but was just so hard. My youngest daughter had a family next to her that had flown in from San Francisco specifically for the concert. They couldn’t get any tickets for her US dates but got some for night 1 here and it actually worked out cheaper to fly here and attend a concert than pay the rip off resale prices over there. Couldn’t believe this. If this is the normal over there than it’s going to be horrendously expensive WC. Hope FIFA don’t whore themselves and have a similar system as 2 years ago
Its hard to say how expensive and how much ticket prices will be marked up for a certain event, but it is quite bad in North America compared to Europe/the rest of the world. Ticket prices here retail for quite a bit, and they resell for even more. Depending on how in demand an event is, ticket prices can fluctuate, but you can guarantee that for an event such as the World Cup in 2026, prices will be sky high. Using ticket resale platforms (Ticketmaster, StubHub, SeatGeek), you will be safe from scams, but you end up paying their insanely high prices. Im not too familiar with the NFL and the example you gave, but with NBA/NHL games that I have been to, some tickets are sold 4x or 5x higher than the retail price.
Americans are used to and expect to pay sky high prices for everything. FIFA has always controlled ticketing and will likely do the same in 26. Europeans are the opposite; they expect soccer games to be reasonably priced and refuse to pay ridiculous resale prices. FIFA is based in europe and will likely get plenty of pressure from Euro fans to keep prices reasonable. The USA bid priced category 3 tickets at $175. So that's likely to be the ballpark ticket price. FIFA has always made reselling tickets against the ticket policy. So all resell tickets are black market purchases. Likely will remain the same in 26.
No way that San Francisco family had it cheaper to fly to Australia than see it in the U.S., unless they got some miracle price on the plane tickets. We are a San Francisco family and went to Las Vegas for the same show. Got decent enough third-deck tickets for about $400 each on StubHub, and 1/10 the flight time versus Melbourne. To your question in markup, there is no set multiplier. The resale price is simple supply and demand, plus a massive commission taken by the resale sites.
Hopefully this is the case. Plan at the moment is to get to the Australian games and a few other group matches in the nearby cities. In Australia there is uproar when it comes to 'black market' prices for sporting events. It's frowned upon. You miss out then tough, you watch on tv. No one pays 4-5 times the cost to attend anything here. We were truly spoilt with the ease and cost of attending matches in Qatar. I tell mates that I paid the equivalent of AU$100 to attend Bra V Swi, Fra V Den etc and their eyes pop out.
Just to stop you being alarmed, the Cat 1 tickets behind the goal will be in Club Wembley. The bars are better there- as are the seats. I would prefer tio be level one near the halfway line, but the ones behind the goal are a form of 'soft' hospitality.
I don't drink alcohol and I prefer cat1 to be along long sides. And I am going to final game watch football and not to spend time at the bar.
