Surely the area would have to be much larger than what we saw in that picture with the stalls. That area is barley big enough to handle the queues let alone those who are drinking it! Some games you could easily have 10,000 plus wanting a drink so good luck to the security and a couple of easily moved fences!
4 hours in the queue. Do you think FIFA changed something or just a bunch of people really want to get in?
Did we ever find out what the Asian fans dressed as argentinians/brazilians/Germans/english fans was about? Its all around international media now and people are mocked Qatar. What was it really about? Cant believe people have just randomly put on the shirts and dancing
Some cool photos of beer tents, the massive screen showing other matches, a stage and a team flag collection point outside Al Janoub Stadium
Yeah it's kind of cringy I must admit it.... I'd love to try and get together a troupe of Italy, Colombia, or Nigeria fans like that, or some team that isn't even in the World Cup lol...
But do you Think they are paid to do it? What should the purpose be, it just doesnt make sense to me.
Who knows originally I think it was a test run to see crowd movement on metros and to stadiums. Interesting it's gone viral worldwide
Don't know, because there's nothing in the fcfs that isn't in the resale.... very little certainly no major game I'm in at moment
Believe it is legit, fans from South Asia follow South American or European football teams as their own. Definitely more fans of Argentina in Bangladesh than in Argentina. This is an interesting read: How Bangladeshis Became Argentine Soccer's Most Diehard Fans (remezcla.com)
It’s all the love for the football.. Indians have huge fan base for teams like Argentina/portugal/brazil/Germany and so on, and they have got a golden chance here to celebrate at it’s peak as the world cup is happening infront of their eyes. PS : no one is paid here for participating in such events.. It’s all rumors only roaming around the media.. Please don’t fall in to such false rumors. I am an Asian and I do participate in such fan celebrations. It gives us atmost joy when we gather our favorite team fans. Apart from this, the media hypocrisy is kind of we can’t participate in a fan celebration unless our team plays in the fifa wc.. that’s too hard to digest
on the subject of Asian fans being football obsessed, it’s going to be eerie when there aren’t many visitors from China. The Chinese love football and have money to burn… wonder how many will be able to navigate COVID restrictions and make the trip…
If anyone is interested, I've set up a WhatsApp group for people looking for a kickabout while we're out there. First game planned is before England Iran on Monday. Nothing concrete venue wise at present, it might be in the car park. I'll bring some bibs with me and hopefully find moody Rihla ball in one of the markets. More a low fi version of footyaddicts app and a place to arrange a leisurely semi organised game. I'll get around to sorting out a shared calendar so it's easier. https://chat.whatsapp.com/KpA7dHQ1G2iFvZRam1PC1O
On one hand it feels like if you're logged in right when the FCFS drops you have really good chances, but doing the logging in and logging out trick every 30 minutes or so for the whole day is very demanding lol.
Those are fans from Indian Subcontinent and its real. Lots of expats from Indian Subcontinent are in Qatar and we are die hard football fans of Brazil, Argentina, Portugal etc. I'm from Kerala, South India and we are football crazy people supporting latin Americans and Europeans in every worldcup. You will be surprised to see the preparations we do for every worldcup. We do have fan fests, match screening in big screens etc and thousands attend these fests during each worldcup. And, I'm sure everyone will be surprised to see lot of Indian fans in this world cup as this one is the best chance for Indians to watch and experience the worldcup. Hoping to see everyone at Doha.
It's indicative of the bigotry that so many critics of this world cup have against South Asian people. Those were real people who were excited about the world cup, and legitimately support the teams, out over the weekend. There's a reason you had that for big teams like Brazil and Germany, and not for Poland for eg. Countries like Brazil and Argentina have a lot of fans in South Asia, going back to the 1960s. Pele came to Bengal in the 70s to play for Cosmos, which led to a huge fandom for him in particular, and Maradona in 86 inspired a lot of Argentinean fans. The younger fans support European teams like England, Germany, Portugal, France and Spain more. Qatar's 50%+ South Asian, the local support that you see in every world cup will largely be brown people. For some reason, that's worth mocking here - funnily enough by the same people who seemingly care about South Asian lives otherwise. So you have people who are passionate about the game, out with their friends during a weekend, to celebrate the teams they support and the fact that a world cup that is actually accessible to us is taking place. Of course, the reaction to that should be plastering them all over social media whilst calling them slaves and that they're doing it for the cash. We're also skating by the fact that, particularly for England, a lot of South Asian Brits live in the Gulf (particularly British-Pakistanis) for various reasons, and that brown doesn't necessarily mean non-British (which isn't to say that even if every single one of the fans were just citizens of South Asian countries, the response was at all acceptable). Pretty infuriating to see as a brown man who used to live in the Gulf and will be going to this world cup, because it'll inevitably mean that certain places (restaurants etc.) will want to exclude us from venues as a result (the racism itself is something I find entirely unsurprising).
do we know if the trick works for the FCFS portal? last I checked, it was working for resale but not for fcfs
I really wish that India or other countries in Asia would get their team together to actually be a force. I feel like 1-2 great players could really jumpstart the whole system.
