Hi everyone, With the incoming proliferation of World Cup-related inquiries as the next Finals draw closer, we've heard several requests on the main thread for a separate space to talk about ticket phases, sales, and the like. Here it is! Until further notice, let's keep discussion of traveling to Qatar and lodging (hotel/hostel/some random guy's couch) options here as well. And please keep in mind the standard policies here on BigSoccer, namely: no scalping or bartering here.
I spoke too soon, it says it will be available in due course . I apologized, just anxiously waiting as well, for the ticket phase to start!
The “November 21- December 17” range at that link refers to the dates of the World Cup Finals in 2022.
I expect tickets will still be on sale on those dates Meanwhile I see that Qatar Air are flogging Flight / Match Ticket / Accomodation packages from a number of cities around the world. https://www.qatarairways.com/app/fifa2022/ Prices from 3800 USD (that's for 4 nights, 2 R16 tickets, presumably from some nearby country), bargain.
https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/s...anage-world-cup-fan-accommodation-2021-10-28/ Were talking about 60,000 rooms In addition to 48,000 hotel rooms Plus may be 5000 tents.. Mmmm, is that enough ?? Group games have 190,000 football tickets daily..probably the peak can be 300,000 fans who need to sleep at the same time.
It's nowhere near enough. Most of those hotel rooms will be soaked up by FIFA before the fans even get a chance. This is why bidding nations are required to provide stadiums in several different cities. Each city normally accommodates one stadium's worth of fans at a time. Qatar got around that by describing suburbs of Doha as cities, that's how ridiculous the bid was.
I still hope that the 60k apartments and villa rooms are those secured till now, not including the new projects or owners who have not apply to the short rental license yet. They need 50,000 rooms more to cover group games need. The number of rooms mentionned in Reuters article is ok for knock out games.
7 nights and three group matches USD 4950 13 nights and 4 group matches 6950 4 nights and two quarter finals 4050 Did a mock booking and the tickets seem to be Cat 1 or Cat 2 depending on the package. Can I ask you experienced World Cup travellers do you think these are good prices for any World Cup? Or more good considering it’s Qatar?
For Russia 2018 I stayed almost 3 weeks and spent about USD 4,000 (excluding tickets). So for me those prices are too much.
Hard to say without knowing how extravagant the accommodations are, but comes across like a pretty big rip-off. I mean, 2 QF tickets should cost something like $500 roughly so that's over $800 per night for the hotel?! And that 7-night quote is more than I paid for a 17-day Safari in and around the Serengeti, which included food, a guide and a vehicle.
Thanks Itiofele and Boca Fan for your views. I sketched some costings for 14 days in America for the 2026 World Cup and my estimated spend for three group games and a R of 16 was in the range of the 7 nights and three group games Qatar package, which is why I asked. There will no doubt be the usual “World Cup Premium” in 2026 but even allowing for this the Qatar packages seem expensive.
The good thing about the US world cup is that there are so many hotels that the influx of fans visiting for the WC probably isn't enough to drive up the prices for hotels - at least in some cities. That's why I am a bit surprised that your calculations revealed a similar price for 7 nights in the US as in Qatar. But I guess it is easy to spend a lot more money on flights in 2026 than for the 2022 WC.
https://hospitality.fifa.com/2022/de/e-commerce/hotel-katalog/ As always, FIFA with its Match AG has a limited contingent of hotel rooms, in addition to the rooms for the participating teams. of the remaining (over 200) associations, the international media representatives, the guests of honor, the sponsors etc. are left to sell to their customers. Usually for 3-4 times the price, as would be the norm outside of this global highlight. I have been using part of this concept since 2010 and have actually always been satisfied. I am really surprised that there is a lot on offer especially for Doha / Qatar (you can, however, also opt for Oman and Dubai - these hotels will then probably be available for a longer period of time). In Russia 2018 there was a key for minimum stays depending on the competition phase (depending on whether preliminary round / AF-VF / HF / F) - so you had to book at least 3 or 4 nights for the final. This time, due to the shortage of rooms, it is different in that you only get a maximum number of nights per game - a maximum of 4 nights for a preliminary round game and - now it's coming - only in connection with the purchase of a hospitality ticket. These tickets are divided into different categories. The cheapest category - Match Club - is actually a Cat 1 card, but on different seats and mostly more centrally in the lower tier (in later tournament phases also on the side and central upper tier), but without free drinks and food in the stadium. For this purpose, a tent is set up in front of the stadium, in which you can drink and eat as much as you want 2-3 hours before the game and at the same time after the game (of course also during the game: nice the doctor comes). Food is ok - trade fair level, finger food, soups, poultry (I was sufficiently full in Moscow at the semifinals. However, there is enough beer and wine, which is not so insignificant in Qatar. A ticket costs 950 dollars, i.e. almost 800 euros and you currently don't know which game you are buying a ticket for. Basically it doesn't matter - this or these tickets only serve as a "door opener". I or we decided without thinking twice for two 4:00 p.m. games that are so far apart that you can book a week's overnight stay. All other games are built around it in different categories in the normal sales phases. However, culture and relaxation should not be neglected. For the hotel we opted for the Crown Plaza Doha West - Bay - not the cheapest, but you don't stay in the shed - DeLuxe twin room for a whole year. But there are EVEN cheaper ones - from 340 dollars - a tax comes no longer on it. All in all, we have now paid around 3500 euros per person for these two games with a hotel (including foreign fees) Then there are the remaining tickets and the flight - we have the first week of the tournament up to and including November 28th. (Return flight would be November 29th) booked - that is almost the first and second game day complete. If you think this is something for you, you can see https://hospitality.fifa.com/2022/en/exclusive-hotels/ right here to see if something is still possible. You have to order the ticket (s) first, then you can select the hotels that are still available - then for the checkout. After that I had to contact the team (my agent's name is Natallia) because there are still some bugs on the site. At the end you get 2 bills (one for the hotel and one for the tickets), which you then have to pay in the account (similar to UEFA).
on another note why are the kick off times so late for some of the matches like 10pm?. In the knockout stage with extra time it will all go well past midnight, so the mass transit system is hopefully working 24/7
This is done for European prime-time TV. I feel confident saying Qatar will keep their transit system open late enough to get everyone home. After all, they once paid the bill to do just that in Washington, DC for some hockey playoffs games they had nothing to do with: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...es-to-provide-funding-through-business-group/
right a 8pm kick off would be 6pm or 5pm in europe and UK which is too early I guess, sucks for Asian audiences though. At least the final isn't at 10pm
Eastern Asia audience always gets screwed. I mean, the kick off times for Qatar aren't much different than they were for Brazil 2014 despite the 7 timezones separating the two countries. I bet in 2026, you won't see a game kick-off past 5pm local time on the west coast.
No, it was (I hope) a similar price for 14 days in the US and what Qatar Airways are quoting for 7 days in Qatar. Definitely good to know that hotel prices for 2026 shouldn't shoot up too much
In 1994, for the World Cup, all of the West Coast USA games (Los Angeles (Pasadena) and San Francisco Bay Area) kicked off at noon local time, as far as I can remember. That would be 9 p.m. in Europe (8 p.m. in the U.K.). The Mexico 1986 World Cup was the same, as far as I can recall. The start times are always set for prime time evenings in Europe. The exception was Korea/Japan 2002. We still do not have a date for phase one ticket sales, right? Maybe January 2022? But for Russia 2018, I think it was November 2017 for phase one. That was about 7 months prior to the start of the World Cup. So, I can see FIFA pushing this back to mid-2022. 7 months prior to the World Cup would be April 2022.
did having the world in korea/Japan in 2002 severely negatively affect tv viewership and revenue in Europe due to games being in the morning and work hours?. This is obviously why Qatar won the bid, the timezone was the main reason, nothing else.
