My friend - as someone who went to Dallas stadium, I think that is VERY ambitious. There is the not small risk of ET and even IF the match finishes on time, how much injury time will there be? Then there is leaving the car park and the large size of DFW. I would go for a later plane if I were you.
I'm doing both the Dallas and Atlanta semis and I believe catching an 8 PM+ flight is doable (and especially so if you have TSA pre). For context, I did the England Croatia group stage match in Dallas. I was at DFW by 6.20 PM after the match got over by 5 PM. The trick is to walk/get to a pick up point close to the freeway exit. (I got an Uber from the nearby Chick-fil-A). Here's my plan for Tuesday 5 PM - End of match (assuming ET + penalties) 5.30 PM - Walk back to my hotel and pick up rental car 6.30 PM - Drive to DAL and drop off rental car 7 PM - Check in/clear security + lounge 8.35 PM Catch the Southwest flight to ATL My friend can't make it last minute, and I have spare seats in my rental car. I'm happy to accommodate anyone here making the same trip to the Southwest flight from DAL. Cheers!
I was looking at the Chick-Fil-A north of the stadium by the freeway on ramp for this exact reason! I noticed that the designated ride share lot is to the NE, so walking to the north or west and getting close to the freeway makes sense. One point of clarification - I thought all Southwest flights are out of Love Field, not DFW. Maybe you are just using DFW interchangeably for "airport?" Seems like Love Field is about 15 min father away, but I still think doable since it's also much smaller from what I understand. And yes, I am also budgeting ET and penalties. Let's stay in touch about ride sharing... happy to contribute to some of the cost as well!
I took a cab to DFW to catch American for the England Croatia game in June. For the semifinal, I'm heading to DAL to catch the Southwest to ATL. I'll be driving my rental, don't worry about the cost!
Yes, all SW flights are in/out of DAL. I just went to the round of 16 Portugal Spain game there. Flew into DFW, out of DAL. DAL is way smaller, simpler, and very quick shuttle ride to the airport. Versus DFW is about 15 minutes from rental car drop off and then shuttle to airport. Correct that DFW is closer than DAL from Arlington.
Great to hear these sorts of reports and that it all worked out. I wrote a little about the first half of my trip (Mexico City, LA with a day in Dallas, Seattle) but since then have been to: - Vancouver for one week. Arrived by train from Seattle. Saw three games there. NZ Egypt, Switzerland Canada, NZ Belgium. Terrific city. Especially the four days of fantastic hot weather before it turned colder. Beautiful nature - had a day up Grouse Mountain at perfect visibility and the whole surroundings looked stunning like a paradise. The stadium, like Seattle, being walkable from downtown was a nice change from most other host cities. As for the football, NZ played a fantastic fifty odd minutes until the collapse to ultimately lose 3-1. Switzerland cruising but great reaction from the crowd as Canada fought back but couldn't find a 2nd goal. Then in the third game, Belgium finally woke up in this tournament and you could feel the big difference in between them and the earlier opposition. Two great fan marches from the Kiwis from the city and also great support from Switzerland and Canada on the way to stadium. - Mexico City for nine days. Really enjoyed it there, and barely scratched the surface of it all. Would have been a really nice place to live for a year or two when younger. Everything food wise was excellent and I really miss it. Used the public transport to/from stadium this time (had an organised van with others for M1) which was easy and none of those crazy stories of any danger. Loved Mexico Ecuador maybe even a bit more than Mexico England just because of how the game went and the hosts winning and the happy atmosphere, but maybe in time the latter will be more of a classic who knows. Glad and grateful to be there. - Monterrey for the day for Holland vs. Morocco. Had my favourite tacos of the trip there at El Compadre. Went up the Mirador del obispado for the view. Ate Cabrito watching Brazil Japan. Looked around the city centre, everyone extra super friendly. Then headed to the stadium which with the backdrop was absolutely stunning better than the photos. As for the game, Holland never fully got going and Morocco as expected were strong. . Again like Holland vs. Japan game, set up to hold the lead and see out the game but then again conceded late. Then penalties weren't good enough. Was booked to fly for the day to Houston for M90 if Holland had won M75 but it wasn't to be. M1, M11, M15, M32, M40, M51, M64, M75, M79, M92 Ultimately ten matches, which was probably a good number balancing a family holiday (wife+kid, took them to two games), minimal excessive travel and keeping costs low (opening game aside, every other ticket was on the cheap, mostly PMA, but otherwise VST, deals on resale, awesome forum members). Favourite games were Iran NZ, NZ Egypt, Mexico Ecuador. Met bigsoccer users at games in Mexico, Dallas, Seattle. Really impressed with every stadium and it was a great four weeks away.
Booo - we lost, meaningless game it was not the best atmosphere (and the worst view of any seats I had). Sucked - vibe was good til we lost, which sucked . Clearly I'm a USA supporter.
I suggest looking ahead of time to see exactly where you'll be dropping off the car. I had a tight schedule similar to yours for England-Croatia and had a hard time finding the car drop site. The direction signs aren't great. We still made it fairly easily for our 8:50 flight.
Yeah - probably too late for people to get intetnal approvals and flights. I once had regular use of a box at a top EPL club. If the invtees were not firm with one week to go - they were.not coming. That they are selling.as cat 2a means the hospi was off site. This is as good as it gets for hospi demand.
That seals it two yellows. Can No Var-England beat Vargentina? There's no conspiracy it's just luck; a lot of luck.
LOL That “mistaken identity” VAR conversation must have been something like “Switzerland is playing better but that is not who we have in the semifinal.”
Is anyone here going Dallas-Atlanta by car? 12 hours ride. Looking for this type of transport and cost splitting.
It's a bit harsh. But the diving needs to be stamped out from the game. It can only happen with consequences.
We get the 4 best teams in the semis. One of them Argentina v England. I'm trying to fly over these and hopefully pick up a last minute ticket. But flights just went through the roof after the whistle blew.
Welcome back!! Norway and Switzerland were the better teams in those games but VAR made sure we had the right semifinal… Did the english player received a yellow card for the blatant simulation of putting his leg in front of the Norwegian player? Personally i was hoping for an African team in the semifinals but egypt blew it and morocco was overplayed by france. I find the usual european semifinal not very appealing i guess argentina england is where the fun is right now,
The disparity in the prices of the final tell it all. Seat side kick has France Spain at $1369 both have small traveling groups from what I saw in 2014-2022. Though lots of Spain jerseys in the LA qf. I think it was locals supporting the Latin connection. Argentina vs England are the two largest, loudest, most obnoxious, most passionate, most fun, and lively traveling groups. It's at $2918 on seat side kick. Easy drive for both groups and all the soccer mad fans in Miami. Atlanta will explode lol. I expect some fights to randomly break out with both group's boisterousness (one drunken) "they are the best." M102 will be the World Cup's atmosphere at it's finest. Prepare the Coca Cola with Fernet!
I didn't hear anyone complain when Almiron got a yellow for simulation but now that it favors Argentina everyone is enraged. Keep crying everyone keep them tears coming
Who will VAR favor no VAR England or Vargentina? Or will they have no VAR in that semi. I have a feeling they will let them play and whoever comes out alive wins lol
