I'm in the stadium for Austria-Jordan now. Vibes are good here. Great view from my Cat 3 high behind the goal seat. I think Jordan will have the larger presence here.

Crowd looks impressive on TV, especially given that it’s a 9pm start on a Tuesday between what we viewed as two non-marquee teams.

 

MD1 is almost done and packed stadiums even at dregs. I wasn’t tracking prices at the end; but fifa didn’t have to lower much to fill the stadium. America has caught FOMO.

 

Prices were down to $51 this afternoon for Jordan-Austria. Looked like another FIFA ticket dump on resale, yet again.

Someone posted a screenshot on Reddit. I checked and they were still there. I am not sure exactly what time, but several hours before the match. It’s got to be FIFA doing this.

 

Attendance is very good indeed so far but most people reselling have lost tons of money and most games ended up selling below face value or at a loss, even M1 was selling below fv several time.

Is this a sustainable model outside the incredible wealth of the US and a few Arab countries? most likely not.

As a fan I would rather be in a 50-60k fascinating European stadium in Liverpool, Paris or Turin or the likes of them rather than in a gigantic NFL stadia but from FIFA perspective this is a money making machine they will find hard to beat in the future.

My guess is that FIFA sees the World Cup as a three-pronged stool, where they can alternate among:

1. The unique cash cow that is the United States.
2. Whatever authoritarian country (hopefully the US doesn't complete its ongoing attempt to stumble into this category) that wants to flood FIFA's coffers in return for the tournament.
3. The other developed countries of the world that FIFA reluctantly has to be appease, because FIFA knows the tournament is dead without them. Still will be very profitable tournaments, but not ones where FIFA can just loot the countries.

The loser is South America, which is left stranded and begging for scraps (see 2030) if its leadership doesn't have any self-respect. Because its entirely realistic to add a few more host cities in other North American countries if FIFA wants to milk the US cash cow again. And a 48 team tournament would likely see expanded opportunities to spread out matches to new countries in any tournament in Europe or East Asia. But South America is geographically more isolated.

 

FIFA dropped Cat4 $30 M27s this morning.

 

South America has had logistical challenges in hosting recently. Brazil built a lot of new stadiums to host 2014 and refurbished others. It was very expensive and there were some protests about that spending. The other countries do not have a enough high quality stadia. Argentina has the Monumental, which has been renovated recently and might be further improved. The iconic Bombonera is a stadium that most football fans would love to visit but it is nothing like a World Cup venue. Other countries have 1 or 2 top class stadia.

With the competition's expansion the only way South America hosts is with a continental tournament led by Brazil. That is achievable and would be a great tournament. They are hindered that they have minimal votes as a block. Their only arguments are fairness and passion. Played across several countries and with a lot of visitors ticket prices would be lower but not cheap.

 

Did you get in? Anyone know if they are dropping tickets late for the NY games? I saw some for France Senegal but uncartable same as above

Hmm, M27... first Canada game in Vancouver. This goes against the idea that FOMO is taking over. It is going to take a lot of silly money to fill 104 games at this prices.

Bought 4 tickets to a game and transferred 3 these to a friend. It still lets me cart 2 more tickets on the same account on the marketplace website, if I buy these will there tickets been cancelled since

- I bought the max 4 per household for one game
- however I only have one ticket in my account currently.
- technically cannot buy more if rule is 4 purchase limit regardless if you transfer them

 

Is this CDN $? And by morning, around what time and which time zone? I'm still trying to anticipate drops, so any detail would be appreciated. Thank you
