Why these blatant and arrogant lies all the time from Americans? Really gives a bad taste to an otherwise nice tournament.

You get this attendance for a WC in Europe easily as well. There are more than enough examples just from the 2006 WC group stage (all matches were sold out):
    Saudi Arabia vs Tunisia: 66.000
    Ukraine vs Tunisia: 72.000
Trindidad and Tobago vs Sweden: 63.000
    Sweden vs Paraguay: 72.000
Ivory Coast vs Serbia and Montenegro: 66.000

No WC vibes in SF at all.

Good point, however would Europe be able to do those numbers in the stands with the prices FIFA is changing in North America???

That has to be considered too.

I personally believe that this is the new price structure unless you get something like Saudi Arabia who will subsidize FIFA pockets.

If Europe is cheaper it means less money for FIFA and it will be back here sooner rather than later.

Anyone buy tickets in the last 30 min and not get a confirmation email/ charge on their credit card. I did get a confirmation from FIFA on the website saying they'd send me more info when they confirmed the transaction went through.

This! I (sadly) feel that in the coming decade or so, the WC will only be held in:
    • the Middle East (Saudi, Qatar, UAE) if those countries subsidize the tournament, as Qatar did providing fans with free transportation (and possibly subsidizing the cost of other things?); or
    • any place with unfettered capitalism
I think Europe has laws regulating 3d party ticketing to help keep costs down. And then of course, any single host (or group of hosts) would need the infrastructure (transport, and “right kind of “ hotels & stadiums) for the tournament.

Too far from the de facto host city, San Jose, which has every match at its downtown fan zone.

The pricing is partly based on it being a rare and therefore special event. Increase the frequency and the value proposition erodes.

There are a lot of countries in FIFA that will vote based purely on money but overall it is a very political system with lots of influences. Including direct political influence from national Governments. The good of the game clearly doesn't come into it.

Sitting at Redd's near Metlife trying to buy l a last minute ticket to France vs Senegal and I have got to say FIFA's ticketing platform is horrible and buggy as ********. It keeps showing me a $690 cat 1 tickets that doesn't exist...

Yeah, why would SF be considered the host more than SJ? It's a 15 minute drive to the stadium vs 1 hour. The population? No, San Jose proper has a higher population than SF proper!

The games ~suck for group stage and San Jose is a far more diverse and materially closer to the stadium (and larger population) city.

It's just a random politically-minded troll with little engagement except for rage-baiting. Let's not pretend that our own countries don't have these. Let's also not pretend that he represents the average American.

Obviously they're going to name it after the more globally recognized city (San Francisco).

Not going to be the last time, a lot of games will sell below 100 dollars before kick off as we correctly forecasted a couple of months ago.
