Yesterday I went to Times Square, and the Moroccan supporters just aren’t the same as they were in Qatar or Russia. On that front, I’m not feeling very optimistic. The Brazilians, on the other hand, are out in force. Right now, the vibes are pretty much non-existent.

I had a big respect for the activity of marianelah on this forum. But, with all my respect, to compare Gold Cup with EURO is the dumbest thing that I ever read on this forum. His perception about football is really dissapointing. (Probably) USA will win this group (goal difference could be the key for that), but Belgium and Spain are (big) favourites against them (everywhere on this planet).

P.S. the difference between the european football and the rest of the world is huge. You can count the number of european teams qualified for SF since 2006, in those last 5 tournaments that marianelah attended (btw, no one from Concacaf ...). You can also count the last 20 CWC. More than that, one can say that Brazil and Argentina (or even USA) are ”european” teams (almost all their regulars play in big european leagues). Even Messi is a european ”product” of La Masia.

What type of crowd do we expect to see for Qatar v. Switzerland in San Francisco?

This one is going to be a signal for how the tournament proceeds IMO.

There was a lot of people on then forum giving very bad advice quite the opposite to the previous 2 world cups. Tickets were always going to go higher they was always going to sell, encouraging people to hold has left many in the mud including many Scottish for tonight who despite all the evidence still thought they would drop . Don’t listen to the internet guys

It is a bit early to make any definitive statement on the matter, internet guy. The opening games are always the second most popular games.

But it is possible that FIFA found a way to keep prices from falling even for low demand games.

Reason they are not falling is because demand is high . Simple . Always was going to be .

TBF, I don't think anybody with any sense was telling fans who wanted to go to a Scotland match to wait.

USA looked scary in the 1st half yesterday. Great performance. Host nations especially the US doing well will do wonders for the tournament. It will snowball. The pre tournament doom and gloom was a load of crap. Just enjoy the football and tournament and laugh at the media who post photos of empty rows at half time and bullshit that stadiums are 'empty'.
Perfect today in Vancouver, sunny and around 25deg. Very tough game against Turkey tonight, will be happy with a draw.

Those fans were here earlier, but unfortunately it’s still relatively little to nothing compared to the Brazilian support. Moreover I can assure you that hardly any of them actually have a ticket. How sad is that?

I’ve been at the American Dream Mall for a few hours now (apparently this is the warm-up), and when it comes to Moroccan fans, it’s mostly families from the U.S. The Brazilians are heavily represented, and in that regard they have worthy opposition. But in terms of passion, I think I just have to let it go.

This is the American way of passion: spending money on every possible form of artificial entertainment while looking around to see what’s happening.

NYC shuttles - 10 minutes from when I arrived at Red Line shuttle start at Columbus Circle to getting on a bus. Very smooth so far. Bus also has air conditioning :)

edit: looks like the FIFA shuttles have dedicated lanes. Lots of police enforcing. Great for fans, bad for everyone else. Surprised this is even possible in the middle of manhattan.

I got a few tickets, I will be spending a week in Kansas City to catch 3 games.

Now I have to see if I want to drop 1 thousand dollars for Philadelphia on 4th of July, because the USA will definitely play that game.

Hi, I’m taking this exact bus in two weeks. Where exactly in Columbus circle does the bus wait. Also how long did the journey take? Enjoy the match!

Could anyone who’s taking NJT to the game today from Penn Station report back on the experience?

Bus is on the northeast corner of Colombus Circle (the corner of Central Park). It’ll be hard to miss the line and all the shuttles lined up.

Currently still on the shuttle. Got on around 3:10pm so it’s been 45 minutes. We’re stuck in traffic in NJ (around Secaucus area).

Watching Qatar v Switzerland and the half time exodus is ridiculous. Fine minutes into the second half and there are still loads of empty seats all over.

We’re just getting into Meadowlands now. It’ll take about 70-80. The stretch of highway once you get into NJ is pretty brutal. Lots of traffic.

If i am sitting behind goal, how do I figure out what country's supporters are behind that goal?
