It is because you only referred to the days when holders automatically qualified. 2006 was the first tournament that the holders had to go through qualification.

And yet, they had Ireland in their group

    A couple of points.
Ireland being in the group was not an issue - they didnt have a record of hooliganism.
The aim was to get England's hooligans on the island and away from the mainland. Easier to manage.
As it happened England got out of the group and there were no major issues. But there was a LOT of concern.

And as an aside - about that 'draw'. Just look at the group Italy got.

If anyone is interested in hospitality sales the priority access deposit programme will start tomorrow. Season ticket holders from many MLS teams were offered their own priority, but this one is for anyone who had registered or registers their interest.

It isn't explicitly written, but in the code on https://onlocationexp.com/soccer/fifa-world-cup-hospitality-tickets it suggests packages will start at $736 but this could be a placeholder or the minimum deposit amount.

Yes I was about to say. MLS teams are getting their own presale window on hospitality. From my DC United rep:

Please note that on Thursday, November 21, FIFA and On Location will announce a Priority Access Deposit program that gives the general public an opportunity to reserve a spot in line to purchase FIFA World Cup 26™ Official Hospitality packages. Because you are a D.C. United Season Ticket Member, you WILL NOT participate in this program given you will be able to purchase in the previously mentioned exclusive window PRIOR to the general public, directly from your team representative.

This is true. And this is why, when a surprise happens - for e.g. a really good team finishes 2nd in their group instead of first - you will typically see tons of supporters of that team in the city and the stadium of the knockout match where that country was projected to play. This was already happening all the time in the 32-team format.

So, thousands of fans just watch a match not involving their country. But they just roll with it and have a great time anyway. Its not like they mope around like its some calamity. Sometimes we overthink things in this forum.

Hospitality tickets are on sale now.

I want to know when the first window for regular tickets will open, are we thinking March 2025?

Put my down payment in today just in case. Doesn't hurt I guess, but damn if that's not free money for Goldman Sachs and Fifa to carry that interest for 20 months. Those bastards.

Doubt it will be that early. Probably September-ish.

Are the hospitality packages the best way to confirm tickets? or will fifa be offering other types of packages like team ones? Just wondering if I should jump on this or wait, thanks

If u can afford the current package prices, go for it and save yourself the hassle. Otherwise dont break tye bank and wait to see what else FIFA will put out next year. This group will light up with information soon

As mentioned earlier in the forum, there are a lot of right-to-buy NFTs available on the FIFA Collect platform. Prices typically $300-350 for right-to-buy two tickets. Host games higher of course.

I see these as a way of getting priority access to the FIFA portal when the ticket sales start. I believe all categories will be available although this hasn't been formally confirmed yet. I think a cheaper way to secure tickets than hospitality.

I've already got quite a few matches this way - I bought M57 in Dallas for $325.
They are also tradeable if plans change ahead of the ticket sale starting.

They have in the past, but obviously didn't in Qatar. Instead they did 4 packs of games.

The draw was arranged and so they made England and The Netherlands play in the same group after all what happened before?!

I'd like to go to the opening USA game and maybe the 2nd one as well. I did end up putting a down payment down

They should return to the stadium (city) packages. Qatar was unique cause of the country geography and stadia proximity.

"hassle" is the real fun, so no, never, not even with enough funds in the back pocket!

Only 1 team has zero group stage games inside the US, Mexico's 2nd opponent.

Yes, I can totally see that happening: IRN training camp based outside of US territory.
Plus, it will help multiple IRN fans unable to get a US visa.

Same draw considerations would help other squads whose countries face heavy restrictions for US visa approval.
