Looks like you have plenty of time as others have mentioned. But the airline you are flying is also a factor (if you had less time to spare). For e.g. the main US-based airlines would typically have curb-side baggage check outside the airport terminal which saves time - potentially alot of time. Well worth the $5-10 even if you do have time. If its a foreign airline that doesn't offer that service, just dropping your bag can take anywhere from 10 to 90 minutes, if you are flying coach (the bag drop process and time it takes is the biggest unknown in the whole airport experience).

If you don't have any bags to check, then the "arrive 3 hours before your flight" recommendation is basically a joke. There are fewer steps to go through (and often less walking to do) from airport drop off to gate arrival at US-based airports compared to other continents (speaking generally).

 

100% doable. The airport is 15 minutes from the stadium. if you give yourself at least 3 hours you'll be fine. Seat to seat will about 1.5 - 2 hours with security points.

 

Hi guys, has anyone heard anything about association tickets being transferable or not? Has FIFA allowed associations to do this or not?

 

Regarding Vancouver - I tend to agree. Hotel costs are $1k a night if available at all. This was too much for me so I booked an Airbnb in Richmond which is a suburb about 15km south of the city on the train line. From what I have read it is safe and you can get good Asian food. Also close to the airport. I looked at some suburbs to the east of the city but they had rather sketchy safety records.

I'm planning to base myself in New York. Is it possible to watch the 3 p.m. game in Foxborough and return to New York in one day? What's the best way to do it? Is the train the best option?

 

Absolutely not. Plane is going to be way better. Foxborough is just so far from Boston.

 

It’s definitely possible. If you have a car, that’d be the most flexible way. Somewhere around 3.5 to 4 hours driving from NY to Foxboro stadium (add an extra hour for traffic at the stadium after). But that’s a long day if you’re alone.

Plane could be fastest, depending on how close you’re staying to the airports in NY. You run some risk of delayed or canceled flights and it’s possibly expensive, though the trains can be almost as expensive too.

Depending on the prices, my preferred method would be to take the 6am train from NY to Boston. Then a TBA FIFA shuttle from central Boston to the stadium (starting around 10am maybe?). Take the same shuttle bus back to Boston after the game and have a train back to NY booked no earlier than 8pm. Or if that’s too late for the train, I’d consider some bus options (there are plenty). If they end up making some FIFA shuttles buses between Providence and the stadium, that would be faster than going to Boston.

 

Richmond will be fine. I stayed there for the Olympics and it was very easy to get into town

I don't see how they could not be? They're not being sold at a discount where special restrictions could be attached, so on what basis could supporter tickets not be transferable?

 

I don't want to be the Grinch, but I don't like your chances. Cat 3 is a very small percentage of the stadium, and the matches you have applied for are super high demand. Most Canadians will be applying for exactly those tickets, plus M51.

They’re not cheaper than the general tickets, but for some countries with high demand, having priority access to a dedicated pool of tickets is a benefit itself. As opposed to having to apply in the general lottery or buy on resale. Federations such as England and the Netherlands who track match attendance for ticket priority might be interested in protecting that benefit by making the tickets non-transferable.

Having said that, I think they will all be transferable and don’t recall any recent examples of federations restricting transfer. I’m only closely familiar with the US federation tickets, which have always been eligible for transfer and resale.

 

Just a FYI. Tournament tickets aren't counted by England when it comes to ticket priority.

 

In addition to car, train and plane there are multiple buses between boston to ny daily. You can check Peter pan, greyhound, flixbus, megabus for price and schedule.

Is there any consensus of what resale prices will do from now until the start of the world cup? I'm tempted whether or not to buy resell tickets because I don't expect I will get tickets this round, when most people realise this after this lottery won't that increase the prices?

 

What platfform are you using for booking accommodation? I am using Booking.com, but the fares are really high. Today I checked at FIFA accommodation site and fares were lower than booking.com. The only demerit is they do not offer cancellation with no charge

 

depends on the match. We’ll see floors set around February. But most matches are overpriced. Some grossly overpriced. I don’t see Scotland, Colombia and Mexico matches coming down much.

 

I use Hotels.com as well as Booking.com. Prices are going to stay high on there until the event gets closer. You already missed the window when prices were lower. I'm seeing prices fall now with Milan for the Winter Olympics, so it might be a similar situation here in a lot of cities.

I agree. First two matches you have some chance of cat 1 given they are close to resale prices.

Are supporter tickets generally really that much easier to secure than regular public tickets? I guess for small distant countries - say Uzbekistan for example, maybe yes. But for the majority of the popular nations, I suspect ticket access via the Federation is not all that easier to secure. Anyone have thoughts on this? As Canada rarely makes the World Cup, I don't have much experience on the topic!

 

So I buy a pair of Canada supporter tickets for a match in Vancouver (5.5 hr flight away from Toronto) for my brother to use, and they're going to tell me I can transfer them? They can restrict resale, but transfer? I don't think so... But ok, agreed one never knows with FIFA. Let's wait and see...
