I don't disagree, but I think the CWC (even with all of its flaws) is a better comparison of local interest over anything MLS-related. Just because you're a football fan in the Pacific Northwest doesn't mean you care more about the Sounders than someone like Mo Salah though.
How much was your guys' total on your application? Mine was $20000. I don't think I want to win this kind of lottery
June is thunderstorm month in Toronto, albeit more towards the 2nd half when it gets hot vs early June when it often remains cool. Toronto weather tends to switch quickly from cool to hot around mid to late June.
The cynic in me does not believe the 5m ticket requests in one day and is really just another FIFA ploy to make people desperate and go for Cat 1 and also raid the Reseale market as soon as it is open. Could their system cope with so many requests in that time? Especially as.getting into the site was very easy after the first hour. I imagine this is another example of false news for the desired result they want.
This whole things smells of the 2008 housing crisis. Pump the prices... FOMO lotteries... When it comes time to pay there is gonna be a lot of defaults... And that's when we snatch up those tickets boys! I feel like there's gonna be a few people with lots of tickets they thought they could resell only to find the FIFA price was the resale price already and the Stubhub prices were mirages. Tbh I'm probably going to cancel a lot of my application. Worst comes to worst... I'm on a beach vacation with the $20000 I saved watching the games at a bar. All my world cup travel and accomodations are refundable.
Who knows? There are people posting here who have already cancelled their initial application and reapplied. I bet cancelled applications are included. There will also be massive demand for host nation fixtures and the glamour teams. Would anyone be surprised if there were a million applications each for Mexico, USA and Canada matches? I wouldn't. 5 million isn't a lot of applications. What matter is the number of applications for each match and each category. Having read the Fifa press release it is notable that there is no mention of any Asian or African nation, except Korea Republic as an opponent of Mexico. It would be a shame if there were few Japan and Korea supporters at the tournament. If people just want tickets then apply for African v Asian matches. Another unusual thing is the lack of mention for matches in the later stages. Usually there would be huge numbers of applications for the final. No info on that. Conditional tickets create a multiplier effect. Theoretically they can sell 216,000 conditional final tickets (48 nations x 4,500) but obviously they won't. Including all the knockout rounds there are 17,500 conditional tickets available for each nation in knockout rounds, excluding the 3rd place play off. 840,000, of which a maximum of only 195,000 will ever be issued, if I have added the numbers correctly. Obviously some teams haven't finished qualification yet and can't apply. However, there will be a lot of applications for tickets which will never exist.
I think there has been a lot of creative Accounting here. Why would they get such high figures after Just 24 hours when the sales period is a month?
Do we know if FIFA will have onsite luggage storage like at previous tournaments btw? Just curious that's all!
Probably not, Was it Russia where we could? I think last time I saw that was the 2017 confederations cup. At NFL games we can only bring a clear bag "The NFL clear bag policy allows one clear bag (plastic, vinyl, or PVC) no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", plus a small clutch or wallet (4.5" x 6.5" or smaller) for essentials, or a one-gallon clear Ziploc-style bag" I think they did that policy for the CWC.
For Qatar they did, or at least some of the stadiums did. But those sorts of details don't come out until much closer to the event.
I assume that 5 million requests isn 5 million tickets. So if someone does the full 40, that's 40. There are plenty of matches that have plenty of resale value even at the current prices.
It feels like there are two potential outcomes and neither of them are ideal for those of us participating: 1. The demand is real, the matches are oversubscribed, and those of us who aren't lucky in the (already expensive) lottery will end up having to pay even more for tickets. 2. The demand is artificial and we'll end up holding the bag when this becomes evident and prices crash.
Its not holding the bag. it is you paid more than the next guy. I'd rather have my tickets so I can book everything else. My flight to Monterrey is stupid expensive and that is incredibly annoying.
My take is the demand is real. No way there's fake demand in USA for a World Cup. Latino populations are massive and it's every Latinos dream to be at a World Cup. We are emotional and FOMO will kick in. We'll find the money somewhere to live a bucket list item that's coming to our community. The real question is... what's the floor and ceiling for each match? I think FIFA's still trying to find it. But demand is real and will only increase in LA, SF, NY, Boston, Philly, Miami ATL, and Texas. I'm not familiar with Seattle and KC.
June-July is peak wildfire smoke time. Imagine paying over a grand to get tickets and having to breathe this for 2+ hours (it will also likely impact the quality of the game): On the bright side (no pun intended), at least this might embarrass Canada, who has been neglecting this issue since it arose the last few years, to the point of finally taking this issue seriously.
Those matches didn't sell out because too many people like me saw the ridiculous ticket prices FIFA was asking and refused to pay them. And if you think any of those matches were "some of the biggest in their history", then you don't understand Sounders fans......our two MLS title wins, our CONCACAF Champions Cup win, our League Cup win (which I've mentioned), playoff matches against Portland or LA teams, our US Open Cup wins.....those are all much more important matches than any Club World Cup match.
Just noticed that the r32 match in LA (2A vs 2B) is more expensive than the r32 match in Mexico City (1A vs 3x). In fact it is the most expensive r32 match, with the 2nd most expensive being the r32 match in San Francisco (1D vs 3x) which would feature the USA if they win their group. The LA match could be Mexico or Korea out of Group A, so either one would have a huge base of fans there.
Prices are dynamic based on cost of living, teams playing, importance of the match, etc. FIFA is slimy. Nothing we can do.
