I thought that FIFA was technically a nonprofit organization, and that was why ticket prices had always been relatively low? If so, then I wonder what changed?

It is BUT there is a very wide interpretation of what constitutes "developing the game in FIFA affiliate countries"

December is going to be interesting when they release the federation allocations.

Are these the base prices that will be charged? Do FIFA place any value on the atmosphere generated by participating teams supporters?

The areas of the grounds where fans have been placed in previous tournaments are now all category one. Are they really going to stick the bulk of the fan base up in the nose bleeds or will their compromise be that you're getting a cat one seat for a cat three price so don't complain?

if any tickets are going to be affordable, then it will be supporter tickets, but there were quite a few signs that those would be distributed much later than before, possibly after the playoffs

many assume that FIFA wants to see how sales of expensive category 1 and 2 tickets are going before they start allocation of supporter tickets. it was also nowhere stated which categories and which stadium areas will be reserved for these.

the new dark side FIFA, worse than ever before

One other factor is the conditional tickets. You always pay up front for knockout rounds you want to attend and get refunded for those your team doesn't qualify for. Previously this was easy as the knockout rounds, by round, were all priced the same. This time there are price differentials between venues ranging from just over $100 for a cat 3 R32 game to $240 for a cat 3 QF.

It will be interesting to see where FIFA pitches the price point assuming they are following the same practice of you paying up front and not switching to the UEFA model.

Who says supporter tickets will be priced at the Cat 3 level? Soccer Canada has no idea what price they will sell at, or whether their will be CSTs...

I'm not saying that they will, I'm giving it as an example of how FIFA may "compromise".

I accept that for this World Cup nothing can be assumed from previous practice.

yes but this is also after signing up/paying your way through Canada RED or whatever tf they r calling it… as someone who was at Euro 16 and in Qatar, these prices are disgusting. Living a 5 min drive from a home world cup stadium, and may not even try to go is brutal..

Definitely will be watching, we also play the US a few days later in Colorado. Both games mid morning here thankfully. Hard work those overnight games. Socceroos not a great team on paper but said the same thing in Qatar and look what happened. Beat Denmark and gave Argentina a fright in the r16. They always give 100%. New coach Tony Popovic (ex Crystal Palace) is very dour so expect a results based performances.
Are you going? Canada seem to be doing ok. What are cat3 tickets going for here? $500 lol...

I only question the assumption that supporter tickets will be more affordable. I don't think there is a precedent for it. In Qatar, my Cat 1 supporter tickets cost more than face value, and Canada had multiple sections in the stadium... None of mine were behind the goals, which incidentally I dislike - not a good vantage point to watch a match. OK if cheap, but otherwise, no thank you...

This happens in us soccer and mls as well, they would rather sell vip experiences than to make it available to more people at a reasonable price and have a full stadium. We have been seeing it with our national team games and in mls for two season with Messi's tour across America. High resale price is often used in the broadcast to show how popular it was. Ticket brokers are often sponsors and partners of sporting teams and leagues.

In America we are just customers to them, not fans.

I got an email from FIFA which got me excited... ...only to realize it was them emphasizing the RTB tickets options crap.

In Qatar the England supporters tickets were the same price as any other ticket. I bought Cat 3 tickets and was behind the goal for all 3 group games.

Between 3/5 and 3/4 of our allocation were Cat 3 and from behind the goal towards one corner.

Really looking forward to finally see Colombia in a WC in person.. but these prices are discouraging ..
What do you guys think is best: Buy a RTB for Colombia TST right now (are RTB for team specific even available?) to try and secure Cat3 tickets, or wait until later and run the risk that no cat3 Colombia tickets will be available anymore?
    Any advice is appreciated!

Colombia tickets are going to be some of the hardest to get.
Be prepared to pay a lot either way unless you win the lottery. (Ticket lottery or real lottery.)

I mean, if I had access, I would be making my purchases now without blinking and be happy to be settled. M27 I would take any Cat, M32 (which we have an RTB) I am hoping for Cat 1. M40 and M48 any CAT but would probably prefer 3. And M88 give me that Cat 1.

Now M14, I would probably be ok waiting at this time. I would still buy Cat 2 if it was placed in front of me to be done. But its a midweek game in Atlanta that is matched against Miami. No clue who gets the good matchup, but if that matchup sucks, there is no way that game sells for $300 Cat 2 that it is going for now.
