I'm going to Cardiff for the final!!! After a few days of searching, I'd all but given up on finding an affordable airfare, but yesterday I found a fare on Virgin that I talked myself into, so I'm off to Cardiff!! Since I booked it yesterday evening, I was too late to purchase my ticket during the period for Members (which ended yesterday at 4 p.m. in London, 11 a.m. for me). So, I had to slog it out with the general sale that started this morning. Ticketmaster was so busy that it was hard to connect and they sold out of their allocation within two hours. After a few tense hours and attempts through various methods, I ended up with a ticket -- and only about an hour of sleep last night -- and I booked a place on one of the 50 (!) supporters coaches, as well, so my travel is all booked. My ticket may be pretty good, as it's in the second price level (36 pounds). I don't have the section number with me at the moment, so I'll have to check that later. According to the team site, we've sold 22,000 after the pre-sale and just two hours of general sale. I looks like we might sell all of the allocation, which would be great. Man, am I excited! Come on, you R's! Mark http://www.qpr.premiumtv.co.uk/today/view/breaking_news_detail/0,,10373~384622,00.html
Great news!!! Have a good time!!! I just read that the QPR allottment of tickets is 3K smaller than the Cardiff allottment. Purportedly, this is due to the fact that Millennium is assymetrical, and the Cardiff supporters were given the south end, due to the north end being more conducive to traffic flow of out-of-town supporters. I'll leave it to people who've actually been there to verify this is true. But if this were virtually ANY US sport, and a similar thing occurred, I'd instantly conclude that the hometown fix was in (yes, that's how jaded I've become! ). So, it's down to the R's fans to create the better atmosphere!!! LET'S GO RRRRRRRR'SSSS!!!!
You lucky bastard Have a great time - make sure you post a full report here when you get back. And if you could have anything with you that represents the DC R's - that would be sweet. Oh and the Millenium is only two-tiered in the North end due to a limited amount of space behind the stadium. Apparently the Cardiff Rugby club would not sell them enough land to have the full amount of seating in that end. We've now sold 27,000 tickets according to the club. Probably will be sold out tomorrow.
You Must!!! You have to make up a banner saying something like DC Rs. They'd love it. Imagine if you were a London-based fan at the game and you see a banner saying someone had come all the way from Washington DC -- you'd be well made-up. Fly the flag, my friend, and have a great time. COME ON URRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRsss!!! Dylan Presman
Re: You Must!!! Something like this would be cool... Why don't you start working on that Atouk How's your sewing these days?
My "usual" hotel, the Grantley, did have a room, so I'm set. It's going to be an interesting weekend in the Bush, with Radiohead playing fan club shows at the Empire on Saturday and Sunday and Bjork playing there on Monday. I'd be interested in either (having not seen Bjork since a Sugarcubes show back in '88!), so I'll have to see how bad the touts are gouging people.
Peacock testimonial last night Celtic in the UEFA Cup final tonight Radiohead in London R's Final in Cardiff WHY THE HELL AM I IN AMERICA THIS WEEK!!!!!???
The $612 Virgin r/t I got on Sunday is now $812, so that's not looking great. Consider Priceline.com? If so, I can always bump the room at the Grantly up to a double and the R's haven't sold out their allocation yet!
I'm off to the Bush! I'll raise a glass in honor the Big Soccer QPR supporters while in Cardiff! Mark
