I'm off to see Less Than Jake in a week and a day. Could I be more excited? Possibly, but not much. Apart from anything else, the last gig I went to was on December 6 last year, so I'm getting withdrawal symptoms. Everyone else feel free to harp on about who they are going to see.
Amazing. I was going to start this thread earlier today - with summer coming, I wanna see as much live music as possible this summer. News and notes from going to see Third Eye Blind last night in Poughkeepsie. The Chance (the place they played) is a great place to see a show because it's so damn small, and almost ridiculous to negotiate because it's so damned small. It holds 500 and change - think 3EB has fallen a little since 1999 or so? The opening act (can't remember their name) wasn't bad, even if their accents, their hair, and their tunes all seemed straight out of the Britpop Second Division, 1997-1998 season - and they were from LA. Not bad at all, but nothing to change my life, either. But, one thing they did near the end of their longish set was cool: the band started covering Smells Like Teen Spirit, but the singer, instead of singing THAT, did Another Brick In The Wall right over the top of it. A live mash-up! - it sounds kinda bad, I know, but it actually sounded very cool. They won points for that. As for 3EB, here's some random notes: I wasn't aware until that night that Stephen Jenkins is old enough to be my father. Maybe that's why, no matter how hard and loud they rawk, I just can't take him seriously as a rawker. Which, if his ego is as gargantuan as I've heard it is, might tick him off. They've got a good band and some decent songs - even, you could say, the new stuff they filled the middle part of their set with. So why - speakig of ego strokig - after TWO trips back out to the stage for the obligatory emcores, did they fail to play 'Semi Charmed Life', their biggest freakig hit....bizarre decisiom to say the least. You could evem say co-temptuous. PS - I havem't beem drikig...life sucks after you spill apple juice o' the keyboard ad lose several keys...like the -....(comes betwee m ad o)
Last week I got my ticket for..... Poison, Skid Row (minus Sebastian Bach), and Vince Neil. They are putting on an outdoor concert to coincide with the start of the Boise River Festival. It's on 6/26 I believe. I CAN'T WAIT!!!! Fat guys holding onto their mullets and slutty 30-40 year old women wanting to give Bret Michaels a **************.
Just got back from Fleetwood Mac's first show in their new tour (Columbus). Buckingham broke at least 6 strings - he was really wailing away on those guitars. And Mick Fleetwood was in rare form. Good stuff.
I'm most likely going to the Carling Festival (Leeds) this year as well. Blink-182 were the ones who did it for me, but I will also see SOAD, Metallica, Good Charlotte, White Stripes, Sum 41, Linkin Park, AFI, Placebo, Finch, The Used... makes me wet at the thought.
I bought tickets this summer for 5 Bruce Shows in Jersey....and then because of the re-release of tickets yesterday bought decent seats for a sixth........After this tour, I am going to try and retire for Bruce (again.) In August, I have my floor seats for Bon Jovi.....They have always sounded like a fun bar band to me and I decided that I was going to support the Jersey boys this summer (like they need my pennies) Got shut out of Lucinda Williams tix (twice) so far this year...hoping to catch her with Southside in Absury Park this summer.
I'll see this lineup and others in July at Wheatland Jam ( http://www.wheatlandjam.com/ ) in Kansas. The originator of the show is a really good friend of mine, so I'm going to work for a few hours (probably taking tickets) and get free tickets to the show and camping. FearM9, I get to camp with the same type of people you describe above. I can't wait. I'm hoping for a repeat performance from a couple of years ago, a lot of beer and also rock and roll boobs. Although, the show I'm really looking forward to is Pearl Jam on June 12th at Sandstone Ampitheatre in Kansas City, KS. I'm sure the show in KC will be every bit as good as the show I already saw in OKC.
I'm gonna see BJ for the third time in four years on May 28 at Prater Stadium in Vienna. Followed by Whitesnake on June 2 and Iron Maiden the week after that. I would've considered the Poison tour again this summer, but I'm not so pysched about this year's line-up. They should've had Whitesnake and Tesla on that bill.
I'm going to two shows in GS, had tickets for a third but I returned them (surprisingly ticketbastard took them and refunded me). Can't wait, saw him last in 1988 I think. He's the best live performer bar none.
Last Concert--Jayhawks, 4/14/03 at Metro. Next Concert--Probably Wallflowers/Pete Yorn/Guster/Shemekia Copeland at Taste of Chicago, 7/4/03.
Not a whole lot coming around; but some shows I am excited about are: Cramps Dressy Bessy Wilco/Sonic Youth Placebo The Kills Pretty Girls make Graves That'll keep me occupied for the next 2 months...
I cannot believe that he dropped GA's last night on TicketBastard. Woke up this morning, read that on The Circuit, and thought "goddamnit!" Anyhow, going to two GS shows, one in July and one in August. I have 7th row in Sec 4 for the July show.
nice seats!! ...I have tickets ranging from floor to the 200's......I have seen him too many times in the past few years but, his shows just keep getting better....I NEED to stop going though.....ridiculous amounts of money for his tickets now..
I just bought tickets for Wilco. Unfortunately, though, they're not playing with Sonic Youth when they play here.
Saw ZZ Top/Ted Nugent/Kenny Wayne Shepherd last night (free ticket). Decent show, but not great. Tomorrow is Ben Harper/Mofro The Eagles (My mother's day present to my mom) PBS (members of the Funky Meters) Beck Neil Young The Dead/Bob Dylan Col Bruce Hampton and the Codetalkers
