RFK to Host MLS All-Star Game

It's being discussed elsewhere, if a mod wants to move the thread.

    Post Article

Anyway, in the article it says that tickets will go on sale later this week. So I guess our B or C ticket is not going to go for this game? I can't see MLS getting more than 30,000 at RFK without season ticket holders.

    Thx,

    Jay!

I figured it was, I just thought it was appropriate here, because it is OUR home stadium its being held in. :D

But feel free to move it if you want.

I am incredibly underwhelmed by this.

I've seen guys like Harkes and Ramos play.

They need to have a team of all-osbscure MLS players, THAT would be interesting.

But I am glad that they found the gutter that Campos was in.

Well I think it's pretty cool anyway - well if they get some interesting non-AMerican WC 94 vets. If Roger Milla comes I'm in. What is he about 50 now? Who else would you like to see from WC 94. Oh yeah - Romario!

Hmmm... MLS All-Star game or Manchester United vs. AC Milan.....

    tough choice?

Not for me. I went to the rain drenched All-Star fiasco the last time it was at RFK.... still have nightmares about Paulina Rubio's Pepsi half-time "act".

Did you fail to notice that Diaz Arce and Cienfuegos will be in the former MLS Greats lineup?

    This will be well attended.

    Will I attend?

There's gotta be a better use of time, money, and ABC coverage than this.
I'd rather watch on tv the MLS stars play in Spain. Why couldn't that have been this years All Star game - abroad this year, at home next.

Wow...the All-Star game, great, no really it is..great..July 31st. Gee I wonder what DC players will get selected. A Nationally televised, tactical crap fest with no tackling, hmm...which player on DC's roster would be able to show-off the most..I wonder.

We're going to send an MLS all-star team to play a friendly in Spain on a Tuesday night near the end of the regular season?!

First, the US Open Cup final is scheduled for September 22nd. Will players from those two teams (assuming they're from MLS) be called to Spain? If two of the better teams make the final and their players are not called, that will weaken the squad sent.

Second, United plays on the 18th and 25th -- all MLS teams do -- so, is this "team" going to train together before playing in Spain, thus meaning guys who already miss games for national team duty will now also miss a game for "MLS All-Star Team duty"? If not, how well do they expect the team to play?

It'll still be a good football party. Question is, will the '94 World Cup team be outfitted in those gaudy stars or stripes uniforms by Adidas? Or worse: Stars in the first half, stripes in the second?

Landon Donovan? No wait, they did that when the game was at San Jose already, didn't they? That was the game where two players pulled a "Brandi Chastain" too, IIRC.

The Sept 21 game against Real Madrid is very poorly scheduled. Isn't that in the middle of the WCQs as well? I'd assume most teams are playing on both the 18th and 25th. Those players should have a nice case of jet lag.

This is so frustrating. I make my schedule in the Spring to make sure I won't miss any games, but since nothing was scheduled on July 31, I will be out of town. Arghh!

I know a lot of folks don't care to see all-star games, but I know a lot of people who would go to see the '94 WC team, Etcheverry, Arena, and others. I've always gone down to RFK for soccer, no matter who was playing. I hate missing games.

Yes, there are five MLS games scheduled on the 18th and 25th, so everyone plays. Plus, as mentioned, the US Open Cup final is on the 22nd.

Semifinal round qualifiers around that period are scheduled for September 4, September 8, October 10, and October 13.

Sept 4/5, 8 and Oct 9/10 are the dates I have for WCQ's. More importantly, what kind of competitions will RM be in at that point? Last year, the week before was Matchday 1 in the UCL, the week after the 2nd Matchday. The 1st Matchday of the UEFA Cup was Sept 24. If somehow they don't qualify for the Champions League, I don't see them playing this friendly with their "A" team. Too many fixtures in Sept/Oct for the Galacticos.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Should be a fun day. We got the East v. West format back, which is how an ASG should be, and a nice bonus thrown in.

Real reneges on the deal and leaves the league in a bad spot. The East v West format isn't the greatest, but the additional game could be fun. I'm interested to see if Novak can break United's no-goal curse.

Best part of the All Star game last weekend, was teh All Star Fest over at the Soccer Plex in MD. Good chance to meet all your favorite MLS players, get autographs and giveaways. I'll at least be looking forward to that, unless of course MLS decides to do something different this year.

Perhaps the league can bring back Andrew Shue -- after all, he was part of the Cienfuegos testimonial match at the HDC (along with RDA, Eduardo Hurtado, Jorge Salcedo, Dan Calichman, Alexi Lalas, Paul Caligiuri, and others).
